No, your eyes don't deceive you. That bit of metal in my hand was once a rear disc rotor, now neatly peeled off its hat. Some evidence of a rock having been embedded on the leading edge of the inside pad. Amazingly no other damage except a thick coating of rusted iron powder on the rim.

VW going by the stupid wheel bolts instead of studs?
At least this isn't as bad as the ones that wear past the rotor face and just have the inner fins left.
This one could use the excuse that it still looked normal(ish) behind the wheel.

This has gone way, way beyond that. It's a solid rear rotor that was 8mm thick new and is now worn down to about 0.5mm thick before being sliced or ripped off the hat.
