I'm new to the mx5 game!
I want to put some tough wheels on my car I have a 2001 6 speed mx5
I was thinking rota grids 16x7's but I have idea what offset I can run to get the "flush" look?
Any advice would be much appreciated!

16x7 needs an offset of around +10 to be flush on an NB, but depends on your tyres, ride height, camber, etc..

If youre new to mx5s then im guessing your mx5 could be stock, with stock ride height. If this is the case your NB may look retarded at stock height with flush wheels and you should think about lowering it before getting 'mean' wheels.

As for op. Listen to second post. If personally go for low teen offsets myself, but at stock height most wheels wont look right regardless of fit.

Offset is a measure of how many mm off centre the mounting face of the wheel is.

Simple way to work it out is to look at your current wheels, being an NB8B they'll be 16x6.5 +40 (offset here is estimated, can't remember the exact)

Measure from the edge of the wheel to the guard, that will tell you how much room you have before to clip it. If you keep a 6.5 inch wheel width, you can lower the offset by that much.
But, since you'll be going wider, you'll need to take into account the extra wheel width, which would mean take the clearance measurement and subtract 6-7mm (being the extra half inch width ~12mm, divided by 2)

So, say you measure the clearance as 30mm.
You'd be able to reduce offset by 24mm, which would give you a 16X7 +16 give or take.

I've got 17x7 ET42 with 20mm rear spacers and 15mm front. Tyres are 215 40 17. I reckon they fill the guards well. (Some photos on last Wed Fish and Chip run, the red car.)

Oh and some of us 60+ old g/p's do like to run with you fast young ones.

Have a look at the 15x8 rotas with +25 offset.
Lots of styles to choose from, I like the grid classics personally.
Will fill out the guards better than stock.

Just Google '15x8 +25 miata' or whatever wheel size you're interested in.

You may need to do a guard roll (not hard) if you are lower than stock and are going for flush-ish fitment.
