Tyre pressure Pilot Sport 3 on NC

I've just renewed the 215x17x45 Michelin Pilot Sport 3's on my NC and queried the fitter's recommended pressure of 38 psi. In return I got a lecture when I asked him to drop the pressure down to 30 psi - said I would scrub out the tyres, I reckon 38 would make the car bounce around. I'd appreciate some feedback on this.

My thoughts on cold settings:
38 is far too high.
30 is OK for around town.
32-33 is good all round

Hi Peter,
I am with JBT and running 30 psi in my B/S 001's, I would probably got to 32 psi for long Hwy travel (they will run a little cooler).
Greg.
P.S. There is no noticable 'scrubbing'.

38psi is fine for lardy falcodores and SUVs. Those pressures should only be seen on MX-5s at the track or motorkhana.

Peter,
I happened to bump into my Tyre bloke today (Farmers Mkt) and he was horrified because the middle of the tyre will wear in a matter of days, although he did say that running a high pressure for two or three days will ensure that the bead settles to the rim.
Greg.

Well it seems as though the bloke from Jax Tyres in Port Macquarie is clueless when it comes to MX-5 tyre pressures. My tyres are now at 31 psi {using my hand held gauge) and all set to drive to Brisbane next weekend.

Thanks everyone for your info.
