Tyres causing pull
Just had a wheel alignment due to my car pulling to the left. the technician claims it's still pulling to the left after the alignment because of the cheap nankang tyres causing "radial pull", any merit to this?

Re: Tyres causing pull
Swap em around...the 'technician' should have done that to try and fix the problem.

yeah he wouldn't do that because they are directional treads.

Re: Tyres causing pull
I've had "cheap" tyres that follow road irregularities and camber but never just one direction. Change wheels front to back see if any change ? What's tyre wear look like?

The inside of the rears are surprisingly quite worn, I hadn't noticed since I would visually check from the side of the car.

Yeah, had this issue for a while and I've checked pressures a few times.

Re: Tyres causing pull
If the inside is considerably more worn than the outside, this could point to excessive toe in. Negative camber will wear the inside, but I believe toe in will cause the excessive wear and may be the cause of the "dragging".

Re: Tyres causing pull
If you bought the tyres then go back to the retailer with the complaint. If you did not buy the tyres then go to another wheel aligner for a recheck / confirmation. If its possible to borrow another set of wheels/ tyres then try that.

Re: Tyres causing pull
Ive had tram-lining and the alignment eventually fixed this. But it has to be someone who knows how to align MX5's. I had it aligned by some local Joe & it didn't make any difference.

Re: Tyres causing pull
Its very common for alignment shops to not align the car at all. Most automatic alignment machines can be tricked pretty easily to show a bad before and good after alignment readout, so a lot of places will drive it around the block and if its ok-ish they just wont do anything.
