DBA5000

Hi All,

Looking for a bit of help.

In replacing my DBA5000 front rotors, my mechanic has now advised the 11" (280mm) diameter rotors currently on the car are no longer available from DBA.
The only option he's presented is to go down a spec to the DBA4000, (which my research has led me to understand this is more a road application)
In my suggestion of going up a rotor size to their next standard DBA5000 rotor, he's cited the extra work to move the caliper is a lot of work.
Is this statement true ? (I was hoping to retain the DBA5000 range as its race orientated)

Else, can anyone advise of a suitable race type rotor to replace my existing 280mm rotor ?
or any other bright ideas ?

Notes:
The car is a track only car, turbo NA8 (~200rwhp)
Runs 6 piston wilwood caliper setup
Carbotech XP10 pads.

Was hoping for it to be ready for this weekends Collie racetrack meeting, and now i'm not going...

I thought the 4000 and 5000 series both used the same iron compound and treatments (XG150??), so the two rotor labels are fundamentally the same performance. I think the 5000 series are all slotted, which is a questionable performance benefit. I think they're all drilled too, which is identified as a weak point. Personally I'd go for 4000 metal, preferably without slots and definitely without cross drilling, for a race app rather than 5000. i.e. more performance, less bling.

DBA have an advice line in Sydney. You may have to work it a bit to get past the marketers to a real technician.

Well that depends... is the rotor a standard NB8B rotor profile? It probably is, but if you're running 6 pot calipers with DBA5000 rotors (2 piece from memory), it could be anything.

Assuming it is, then there are a few options. The DBA4000 is a good rotor, but it is a one piece rotor. The EBC 3GD is a good rotor as well. Powerslots also have a good rep, as do the Stop Tech rotors.

You might also consider moving to another aftermarket 2 piece rotor, such as the Goodwin brake kit 2 piece unit. Given this is a DBA design, it may even be possible that the replacement friction rings for this kit may fit your DBA5000 hats?

As for running bigger rotors, yep - having someone make new caliper brackets will be pricey. It is a job that requires careful attention to get the calipers properly located.
