Quick question about Offset

Hey everyone,

I just purchased pretty nice XXR wheels (15x8 with 0 offset). They fit well and look very aggressive, giving the NA mx5 I have a more muscular look.

I just want to know if anyone has had issues with the gentlemen and women in blue with such aggressive offset on an mx5?

Thanks

Yes because you need stretched tyres/heaps of camber/rolled/pulled/flared guards.

And gotta be quite low.

Check the rules of whatever state you're in to see if they're legal.
I doubt they are, most states rules are somewhat similar.

I would imagine they'd be too wide, the offset too low, and likely the tyres won't be legal of you stetch them.

As for getting pulled over and fined, really depends on the officer. Most won't bother pulling you over, they've got better things to do.

But at an RBT or something they'll likely comment on them, your attitude (and their mood at the time) will usually dictate if they decide to fine you or let you off.

Basically, you know they aren't legal and you've chosen to do it anyway.
When you get a defect, be a man, cop it on the chin, and don't bitch about "police" or "the rules are sh*t" or whatever.

Following most states minor modification legislation, yes the wheels at that offset are illegal for change in track and width in most if not all states.

You are generally allowed a maximum track change of 25mm and an increase of 1 inch in wdth, going from the standard 14x5.5 or 14x6 rims you are already illegal being more than 1 inch wider than the widest option available in Australia, and doing the sums on standard offsets and the new offsets you will alter the track by more than the allowable 25mm.

As for plod? If you pass the attitude test in most cases you will be fine. If they are doing a blitz and you are pulled over, who knows, they may let it go, if you pass the attitude test, or they may bend you over and ream you with a pineapple dipped in the chilli sauce.

Thanks everyone, will risk it this time around, never been defected before so it'll be an interesting experience lol.

Ps. Love chilli sauce

Pss. Nah no pics atm sorry, they're xxr 527s on 195 tyres stretched. Got them at a steal of a price so I'm gonna be running them after I grab coil overs in the new year.
Will also need rolled guards, don't think I'd need them pulled on 195s.
Plenty of pics around with both na and nb mx5s with the specific wheels on if anyone is interested (particularly at club roadster)
