brake setup
I have been running Wilwood Dynalites with Hawk Blue pads for the last few years on my SE and have found them to be ok but not particularly impressive. After the last club day i am in a position were i need new rotors, new pads and one of the calipers has leeked twice and will probably need replacing aswell so i thought this might be a time to upgrade the whole system. My mate has an SE with 4 pot AP and i think 330mm discs and they are very impressive but requires 17's to fit and i would like to continue running the 949 15x8 if possible.
Does anyone run an AP or similar setup under 15's? or i am i just chasing my tail trying to improve the braking while still running 15's and should i just stick to running the Wilwood as they are cheap and readily available?

Have you looked at the the various big brake suppliers from the states such as Goodwin? I think some offer bigger brakes the the basic willwood swap.
I've not got any experience to share but others might like me info on what makes the AP set up more impressive.

i have ap's under 15's.
they basically use the same caliper they put on mini's.
its smaller than the one on the 17 inch kit.
works well but i am not sure it will provide much more braking power than your wilwood setup as the disks are about the same size and the pad surface area is about the same.
maybe try some different pads?
apparently carbotech xp10's or 12's are quite powerful.
these dudes seem to be quite cost effective and are reputable in the UK.

they also have the race brake kit but i suspect these calipers don't have piston seals which would mean they would need rebuilding a lot more often from what i have read.

I got my delivery of the 298mm (11.75") upgrade kit for the wilwoods from TSE yesterday, won't know until next club-day though if they're a big enough upgrade. On the 11" kit I cracked the rotors from the tabs last track day and completely consumed the XP12 pads. The new rotors are slightly thicker (still 22mm wide but smaller gap between the veins) and they feel heavier. If these don't work... I need to ditch my 15's as well.... I don't know how you were surviving at all on the 11" rotors for so long... with ducts my brakes must've been spiking over 1100C to consumed the XP12's in one day like that. That's a 600C increase in brake temps going from N/A to low boost turbo for me...and my car should be lighter with my weight reduction

Mark one thing to remember is that no one in the club quite tests the limit of braking the way you do! My car has felt like it is struggling for brakes for a while but going to a setup like Pats or Simons looks like a fair bit more work and expense.
I had looked at the 6 pistons Wilwoods and thought they look reasonably priced but wonder how much i will gain? and also not sure of what pads are available for this setup. any thoughts?

Well no personal experience to speak of but on the MT forums Savington tried the wilwood 6 pots and thought they didn't give any additional braking, the pads lasted a little longer but cost much more. So he wasn't recommending them to anyone unless you want bling and he was selling them.... I've also got no idea what the pad options are like for yellowspeeds, never even seen anyone run them on a turbo car either.
The AP's are what I'll do next if this setup doesn't work... they're proven but then they're also about a $3k setup initially and everyone with them uses 17's except Patrick which has 16's and spacers IIRC. Can't remember who I was quizzing about them but I remember being told pads and rotors takes absolutely ages to wear but are incredibly painful when they need replacing (something like $700 for rotors and $400 for pads I think?)... Can't remember how many days they were meant to last.

We run the Yellowspeeds on both of our Turbo race cars. We run Ferodo DS3000 pads. We get a lot longer out of both pads and rotors and replacement cost is much less. We have run Wilwoods and AP's before.

The 6 pot Yellows run the same pad as the AP Racing 6 pots.

The biggest difference between both the yellows and the aps is the thermal efficiency of the thicker rotor over the wilwoods race rotor set up.

i bought these ages ago and the company i got them from is no longer around.
you can buy through any ap dealer (they are factory order from whoever you get them from, no one has stock).
