It seems my hand brake sensor (NC) is extremely sensitive, give it too much gas, or simply drive up a decent hill and the light comes on (brakes don't). Any one come across this before?

In nb's the brake light serves as a brake warning light. Could be your brake fluid is low.

Mine did this when it was new.
Fluid topped up, still the light came on when accelerating away from lights.
Mazda couldn't work it out during two services.
It stopped after I changed the brake pads.
I believe that there was some air trapped somewhere in the ABS system and when pushing the caliper pistons back in it free the air bubble(s). A fresh bleed and then the problem went away.
A year or two later and the problem resurfaced. Fluid was at the top level so i reverted back to pushing the caliper piston in method. Again problem solved.
So if your fluid is at the correct level and your light still comes on, try the push in the piston method. It can't hurt.

thanks guys, fluid tank is half full so I'll top it off and get it flushed at the next service.
