Sway bar mount braces

Postby Sailor » Tue Jul 16, 2013 9:31 am

These popped up on the Goodwin site.
Looks like a good thing for early models to prevent that sway bar mount failure

I saw these in my email this morning to :D

I always knew that the sway bar mounts flexed somewhat but it is still fascinating to see by how much. I would love to know how this affects roll rates and stiffness.

I am guessing that these blocks are just forced against the chassis rail and the white cross brace is to stop them twisting sideways and out of place?

Looking at the flex without the brace, I'd guess a softer bar could be used once the brace is installed.

I have had one of these braces for a few years after buying them off Lou, the brace didnt fit on the SE but I kept those hunks of metal and long bolts. They can be a bit of a PITA to install but i'd recommend them.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

You sure they won't fit?

I have a set on my car (see http://mx5cartalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=41091&hilit=sway+bar&start=26) and so does MINX.

For those wondering why these are useful, see http://mx5cartalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=51957&p=653170&hilit=yeah#p653170

These fit

But I didnt fit this

Can't remember if the pipes got in the way or I thought it wouldn't fit when I put in a larger radiator.

Ah, makes sense now - when I bought mine, Brian just recommended the first one.
