Just wondered whether anyone has bothered to rebuild a power steering pump. It shouldnt be too difficult I imagine.
The bearing is grumbling so I need to replace it - are there any tricks?

Have you looked at a workshop manual and have you checked to see if kits or spares are available?

I've now pulled the pump apart down to the bearing on the shaft. Looked like it was a simple matter of drawing the bearing off the shaft but not so. I think the pulley has to come off and then the bearing comes forward. The pulley looks like it sweated on and not going to move. No info in my NA workshop manual on P/S. My Rods 1.8 manual only takes you down to where I'm at...no mention of bearing replacement.

Just checked Mazda's NA8 and NA6 parts catalogues for the pump. The only replaceable parts are a seal kit for the pipes, impeller and backplate - no bearing listed, nor any separate part numbers for pulley, bearing or shaft. Really doesn't look like it's meant to be repaired. So good luck to you if you can get the pulley off undamaged and find a bearing.

At least drawing shows there is a bearing and th eshaft is narrower so it must come forward. Cant believe that its a throw away but maybe they are. I'm soaking it overnight and then will have another go at the pulley with heat .
