Hi,

My car needs to replace tyres and I have checked several tyre brand I.e. Bridgestone RE002, Kumho KU39, Hankook RS3 etc. All of them are $220 up which seems to be too expensive to me. Could anyone suggest a decent tyre with a reasonable price (around $200) and the shop in Brisbane South?

Check Kumho prices from Tempe. I had 245/40 x 17 KU31s (for the other car) delivered to Brisbane for $180 each. Fitting etc. at tyre places is about $20 a corner. Check the Tempe online store http://stores.ebay.com.au/Tempe-Tyres-Online-Store.

Kumho KU31 is probably the closest match to your criteria. However, I'd recommend spending a little more and go with Michelin PS3s. In October I paid $960 fitted & balanced for a set of four. They have a relatively high treadwear rating which means they offer decent life to go with their class leading grip levels in both dry & wet conditions. Saving $160 for a set of KU31s is false economy because they won't last as long. As for suppliers, do what I did, visit the Michelin website, type in your postcode and find your nearest dealers. Then let your fingers to the walking to find the best deal.

The stock size on an NC is 205/45R17 but you will find that 215/45R17 is substantially cheaper in the premium tyres. They will also make your speedo more accurate as the standard setup tends to read faster than your true speed. Provided you get the correct load rating, they are perfectly legal on an NC.

Is it only the NC that s speedo is out when running 205/45/17 ? My SE is spot on according to 2 different GPSs

No, most are out by about 5% by design. Our BMW shows 106 at a true 100. Having said that, our (now ex) 323 Astina was spot on at 100.

My CX5 is only 1km slower at 100kph, but my X trail was about 5km slower at 100kph

I'd to like to suggest Maxxis tyres. Vectra ZR??? Sorry for being so vague but I'm sure you can Google them for more info. I've bought 2 sets over the years and I'm very satisfied with the way they perform in the dry and wet and most importantly how quiet they are for a performance tyre. Don't get me wrong they won't outperform a $400 tyre but they are not far behind.

Check them out and see for yourself.
