so i have been looking around and cant seem to find anywhere that sells steelies and dont know anyone with them to try them on. just heard they are really cheap and i love the chunky look of them! has anyone had experience positive or negative?
know if they clear the breaks?
and know by anychance of somewhere to buy? ( i have googled/ebayed my heart out before u say something dan :p )
and am i right to think ( generaly) less positive offset makes it easier to clear the brakes? i have SE breaks.

There are a couple of US companies who make them primarily for dirt track use, however most people get a set of wheels they like and whose barrels fit over the brakes and have the professionally widened to get the width and offset they are after.

There are problems with steel wheels you need to be aware of, like not being round and not spinning true, which is common, also because they are thin potholes can move the whole rim out of round or cause it to be buckled (so it wobbles, not a dent) and you would never know unless you drove behind your own car.

If you mean ones that look like 4WD Sunraysias then Option1 Garage here in Brisbane were stocking them. Funny though as they had them on their eBay site but never on their website.

The povo pack NB MX-5 in Japan has steelies but i'd strongly recommend not getting any wheels that are heavier than your stock wheels.

Heavy wheels will amplify bump steer and tramlining, the MX-5 handles so well you'll probably end up hating the change heavier wheels make.

Not sure if the factory steelies look is acceptable, but know of one forumite that put Mazda Astina 14" steelies on their NB8A, but obviously didn't have to contend with the bigger NB8B/C/D/SE brakes. If an acceptable look, then auto recyclers might have some Mazda steelies in 15" or 16". Btw, not saying the 15" Mazda steelies will fit, just that they might be worth checking. My concern would also be the additional wheel weight & its effects.

steelies are very heavy. Cheap to manufacture so cheap for customer.

Yeah option1 get the 15x8 steelies but they sell as fast as they can get them in apparently.
They are pretty heavy unfortunately or I would definately have a set.

If you have to have steel wheels that's where I'd be looking.
