new rotor and pads, uneven wear

Postby vrmmmpshhh » Wed Jan 16, 2013 10:59 pm

hi guys a couple of weeks ago i put nb8a rear brakes in the rear of my na6 to compliment the fronts i had done a while ago. the discs are new rda slotted and dimpled and the pads are bendix ultimates. the passenger side looks fine

but the driver side is only making contact with the top section.

anyone have any idea what would be the cause? i used my original calipers with the nb8a brackets.

Did you make sure the slider pins were well lubricated with brake calliper grease before you fitted them?

Also did you adjust the handbrake evenly, tighten fully then back off a third of a turn.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

yep used lots of grease and as for the handbrake i only backed it off 1/8th which is what i read online somewhere. i'll adjust those again to 1/3 just to make sure.

Are the pins bent?

... or the brackets. Did they come from an accident damaged vehicle?

i'm really hoping its not the brackets, i got them from a wrecker as a pair so i have no idea what damage was done to them. the calipers that came off looked fine though. will pull them off and have a quick look tomorrow because today is just ridiculously hot to do any work on the car.

If it were mine I'd get it up on a stand in very good light and just go over the whole setup carefully again. Dismantle it all and check everything as you go for damage or assembly faults. Measure everything for straightness and wear. Less than a thou of wear on the main load bearing pin can be significant. See if you can get a measure of how parallel the bracket is to the rotor.

Looks like the handbrake adjustment was the culprit. I backed the screw out 1/4 instead of 1/8 and it worked a charm. I did notice the bottom retaining clip was missing from the pads though, it looks like one of the bendix pads was cast by a monkey and the groove is to shallow for the wire clip to stay put. Have ordered a set from mania and I'll dremel out the groove a bit more.
