Hi wondering what the goss is on shocks... i have three black and one yellow on my car (previous owner) and they are possibly a little tired...

I need the stock NC "SUV spec" ride-height so i will be leaving the springs alone... i am after bang for the buck, but want good quality jobbies (ie koni? Billies?) i want to have good control without being overdamped....

And what is a good installed price for 4?

Gloss, my guess they are leaking oil.

Go to Goodwin Racing site and order some Tokico HTS shocks plus the rear Adjustment cables.
They will cost you less than getting the stock shocks from Mazda.

Installation cost, 4 hours labour.

flat out, so i don't get to check in every day....

I just haven't been interested in coil-overs... I have to be able to negotiate the in-laws farm... so I would like to keep stock ride height, spring rate and suspension stroke length... not sure coil-overs (let me know if otherwise) will do that hence just after shocks... i actually want to keep it SUV spec...

Still seeking commentary about yellowspeeds at stock height versus stock setup at stock height as the spring ratios front to back (from what I have read) are different?

Anyone ever go back to stock after yellows or similar?

Plenty of non mx5 driving mates are telling me coilovers are "harsh", I want the car to stay balanced...(if I go the yellows I may not be able to help myself and take a speedhump/driveway dependant inch out of it for the daily comute... and wind them back up for the farm)

The other thing is it appears that the top hat has been flooged out (I have a knock) by a loose strut bolt maybe? (speculating), are these things bushed or easily sourced/replaceable?

Im running yellowspeed at the recommended spring pre load, my car has been lowered. The ride is a fair bit more harsh than the standard shocks...then again the standard shocks are utter shiet. If you don't want the harshness id go the Tokiko HTS adjustables, My uncle has them on his NC and they are a nice shock at std ride height.

If you are still thinking, im sure I could organise for you to head down my way (Peakhurst) and ill get my uncles NC here and I can take you for a spin in both and you will have a direct comparison then

Hi, Thanks for the offer, I am so time poor at the moment with 2 roles at work (for another month), two kids (no relos within 5 hrs drive) + renovations...

Considering ordering the Tokico's and rear adjuster cables... read about cars sometimes getting a reverse rake on aftermarket shocks... (due to gas pressures in the cans) is your uncles sitting flat?

also still considering the second hand oems that have been tabled (thanks guys)

I have about two days to come to a conclusion... so this drawn out boring thread will sort itself out

Coilovers and swaybars question - NC viewtopic.php?f=30&t=56453

I decided to stick with OEM.

Thanks to this great community, I was able to get a full set of OEM low mileage bits including the top hats (mine were flogged) bumstops, boots etc... and I got to admire a noice NC1 to boot!

might be a bad choice..unless they were very cheap/free... many NC1 drivers have leaking shocks after 30 000kms or so. My uncle had 2 leaking shocks within a few months around the 35 000km mark

Well, they are in now... and WOW so this is how a standard NC is meant to handle!

It now grips like an eight legged cat!

If I get 30 to 40k out of em that will be enough, by then I might know what I want to do with this car and what to put in it... getting it to a nice stock standard is the plan at the mo...

It used to roll steer like a bugger, guess that having floating strut tops... and four shot shocks (well, at least one of those was a Bilstein) doesn't help.

nice work, now get it to Spinning Wheel for a decent alignment and you will be in heaven
