NB brake upgrade on NA6 - Wheel/Caliper clearance
Hi guys
did a little search however came back close to empty handed.
I'm thinking of upgrading my front and rear brakes on my NA6 to a NB setup.
Main reason for this is due to a caliper leaking fluid and need for new rotors, and I've found a reasonably priced Nb set up thats in good nick.
In the near future I will be hoping to run 14" wheels however..
Offsets are 14x7 +12 and 14x8 0 offset
Does anyone know if the NB set up will pose a problem in regards to my wheel choice?
I heard a few things about 15" rims barely clearing and that you need 16" etc.. Not very sure at all.
Kind Regards

NA8 & NB8A discs are bigger than NA6, & NB8B discs are bigger again, so depends which NB discs you are going for.
Should still be able to run 14" rims with NA8 & NB8A discs (although not sure if 14x7 +12 & 14x8 0 offset will fit), but won't be able to run 14" & many 15" rims with NB8B discs, however NB8A 15" rims can be run with NB8B discs.

Re: NB brake upgrade on NA6 - Wheel/Caliper clearance
Cheers for the info 93_clubman,
much appreciated.
Just noticed the prospective set I'm purchasing is out of a Nb8A.
Moreover it is all factory.
My options are to either;
(1) purchase new front calipers or rebuild existing.
Will also look at Slotted Rotors as well.
OR
(2) purchase the NB8A brake upgrade which might work out slightly cheaper!
However at the end of the day the wheels are my holy grails.
If they dont fit with NB8A brakes on my car,
then I will be looking into a NA6 brake overhaul!
much appreciated.

ok OEM NB8A brakes - I'm still not sure if your holy grail 14x7 +12 & 14x8 0 offset will fit, but someone on here will know. Alternatively, if you know someone with an NB8A, try a quick test fit of one of each of your holy grail rims on it.

Diameter won't be an issue, NB8A brakes will fit inside 13s.
Offset won't be an issue either, it only has bearing on the clearance to the guards and control arms.
It's really a matter of the space from the mounting face to the spokes. Daisys fit over NB8A brakes, but only just.

Thanks all,
pretty confident now that I should be fine.
I havent purchased the wheels and will be purchasing the brake upgrade first (before they sell)
before the wheels come from Japan!
Kind Regards

Tks Nik - didn't realise it was so close for the 14x5.5" +45 offset daisy rim over NB8A brakes.

Re: NB brake upgrade on NA6 - Wheel/Caliper clearance
Mates running NA8/NB8A brake setup had clearance issue running 14x6.5 +7. Had to use spacers in order to clear the caliper (fronts only). Wheels was Simmons.

How much more stopping power does the Nb8a have over the NA6a? I know it would obviously have more due to it needing to stop a bigger motor but anyone know any figures?

Re: NB brake upgrade on NA6 - Wheel/Caliper clearance
You might need to run a small spacer on the front due to the offset of the wheel. I guess you won't know until you get it though and there is no real danger in running say a 5mm spacer.

From what I hear, stopping power is almost the same as na6.
However people have experienced less to no brake fade whereas with na6 brakes
They tend to fade after a few hot laps. It is not a pleasant experience driving on the track with
Spongey brakes !!

I run front nb8a brakes on my na6 with 15x8 +15 and have no problems at all.

Re: NB brake upgrade on NA6 - Wheel/Caliper clearance
15x8+6 SSR's need 5mm spacers on the front, guess you'll find out if you need them when you get the wheels.
I upgraded from na6 to na8 and the big difference is fade as the larger pads etc allows more heat transfer. Larger surface area theoretically means more stopping power as the outside of the disk would be traveling faster. The actual caliper is the same just different brackets which allow the fittment of larger pads / disk
