Loud Clunk from Drivers Front Wheel

Hey guys,

There is a VERY loud clunk coming from the drivers side from wheel. I can feel the vibration of it.

It only happens when the wheel is turned left and the car is moving at low speeds (ie, parking). Forwards or backwards doesn't matter.
I've had the wheel off today poking around. The CV boot is in good condition, nothing seems to be loose...

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Martin.

Hah well i'm not a mechanic and don't know much about them - but there is a rubber boot thingy at the front which I had to get replaced on a previous car. I just assumed it was called that.

There is a small rubber boot on the tie rod end.

The clunk basically has to be wheel bearing, or wheel that is loose if its at the front and constant clunk.

or its the wheel somehow contacting the suspension.

Will be doing so tomorrow... but I want to know what the mechanic is saying XD (or at least pretend to know)

... so that they don't try and rip me off.

Public Holiday tomorrow, so I assume you mean the day after.

Anyway, if your location is accurate, then you're less than 15min away from MX5Mania.
They're a forum sponsor and I've always found them to be honest and reasonable pricewise.
You can bet if they were ripping people off, you'd hear about it on here!

Forum rules dictate that one must not negatively discuss forum sponsors.

Doesn't stop a persons opinion though.
If they didn't think they were reasonable they wouldn't recommend them.

As always, Dann's being himself; opinionated and outspoken, but always extremely helpful, especially when someone (me in this case) has made an incorrect statement.
Good point Dann :)

But, within the context of the forum community being a helpful place, I doubt that people would use and recommend businesses, even forum sponsors, if they weren't providing good service. And from what I see on the forum it's not just myself who thinks mx5mania are a good place.

in theory- Dan to confirm. If a wheel bearing is dodgy you may pick this up by raising the wheel and see if there is any play ie grip top and bottom of wheel . Also if the tie rod end ( ball joint) is worn that can also cause a clunk.
