Would this be any good as a relatively thin clear top coat to assist in protecting the paint finish of stock NB8A wheels? Specifically around the lip where there is very minor flaking/damage of paint, not so much on the face of the wheels.

not sure about the quality of that paint. But i have used 3M clear on wheels i've painted before and turned out yellow-ish over time. Not very noticeable, but be aware they will turn yellow due to UV rays.
Seeing as your wheels are black it might not even be noticeable if they did turn yellow, the wheels i paint was white.

How yellow are we talking? And after how long? 1yr? 10yrs?
It would be going on stock silver nb8a wheels... not black ones

Marty, I'd rather go for something like Wurth. Not sure if it's available here but I've used their wheel repair paint and clear coat - it's good stuff.
It'll probably be 2 or 3 times the cost but that's only $30? And made for the purpose.

They turn to a slight yellow on my white wheels, not very noticeable but more so if its on a white car. Hope this helps..
