NA/NB Big Brake Kit Clearances (NSW)

Postby Nemo » Wed Mar 14, 2012 1:28 pm

Hi guys,

Was wondering if anyone in NSW with a big brake kit on their NA/NB, (Willwoods, Yellowspeed etc) would be kind enough to let me check for caliper clearances against my wheels.

Cheers,

Nemo

If you go to the wilwood site they have a scale drawing that you can work it out from
I worked out that mine would just clear and when I got them there was heaps of clearence
so there must have been a saftey margin in it
I have 15s and wilwoods 11' I think

Thanks for the heads up. Will have to check it out. Shame you're not closer to Sydney metro . Leaning towards the 11" Willwood kits from Good-Win.

Hilarious! I was just searching for you and came across some good info on miataturbo.net, mainly that you can get Mini cooper brakes adapted easily.

Does anyone know if the 11 " willwood dynalite kit from Goodwin needs an engineers cert for ins, as it is a off the shelf can it be fitted as an engineered bolt on

I have just purcashed the big brake kit and will fit once I k ow it won't affect ins third party

I also grabbed a set of stainless lines that are not ADR approved, the nb8a is a dd any advice is golden

They are not ADR approved. So the only way to get them engineered is to have them put through the whole ADR testing procedure. You need to hire a racetrack and the engineer - I was quoted $4000-$5000.

Your engineer may have a different view, however...

I think that is all changing now. There was that meeting between the government and motor clubs a while back and there was talk of scrapping the brake tests as it is entirely impractical and unfair on the owner of the car.

There is even talk of them introducing type approval for modified cars. Someone submits a car with Wilwoods on it, it passes and that kit is then approved in that configuration for that car.

Still a while off yet so if you want it legal you need to consult an engineer.

Check with an engineer, but I don't think that they can be engineered. No ADR approval, they also need dust seals and afaik only one model of Willwood has them. Let us know what the engineer says, so we can either put this to bed, or accept that they are only for track cars.

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)
