Hello all,
I have a 1990 MX5 and want to change the old tired suspension for coil overs and poly bushes.
Can someone recommend a good quality reasonably priced coilover for me, the car does not get dríven hard nor does any track work it is just a weekender and I want it to sit a bit lower and ride a little stiffer.

The Tein Super Street I have been using make an awesome suspension for daily drive use with the 6/5kg/mm spring combo. These days you can get superior shocks for much cheaper though, the BC for example is a monotube design and has adjustable preload independent of height unlike the twin tube Super Street.

I don't understand why Tein use twin tubes on coilovers that on have spring perch height adjusters. ie SSs.
The main purpose of twin tube is to increase the shock travel. But with a coilover that only has the height adjustment at the bottom of the spring, the shock travel is reduced due to the shock sitting higher up in the spring anyway.
Their higher end stuff, ie the $2600 ones with the height adjustment the same as all other coilovers on the market nowadays, well they utelize the twin tube shock perfectly. As the shock travel is not effected in this height adjustment way.
Not say they ain't a good coilover. I just find it weird, that they introduce a good shock, but then conpensate on other things to made it work. Defeats the purpose really.

First question is, what do you define as a coil-over? as technically all NA dampers/springs are coil-overs.
- If you want adjustable damping AND ride height, then my vote is Yellow Speed, or BC ($1,200 give or take). There are a few threads reviewing these.
- If you want adjustable damping only, then Koni/Tokico/KYB dampers with Eibach/King springs will save you several hundred $$ ($800 give or take), and even more $$ saving if you buy the non-adjustable dampers from aforementioned companies.
Our forum sponsors is a good starting point to ascertain what you want. Flyin' Miata, MX5parts.co.uk are also good resources.

Can I assume that from your username you are in WA?
If not, let us know where you are. If you were in Tassie for example, I might know where you can find some lowered king springs with about 400 kms of driving on them. The owner got a bit excited and bought a set of YSR coilovers and the Kings have sat in the shed ever since.

Very happy with my YSR's.
Awesome on the relatively smooth roads up here. I've played around with the settings and my wife is even impressed with the ride for the most part. Hands down the best $ I've spent on the car.
