NA rear caliper rebuild

G'day all, I have received my new seal kits for my rear calipers and I'm going to rebuild them tomorrow. I have a normal set of hand tools and sockets, rubber grease, brake cleaner and fluid and bleed hose. Is there any other particular tools or items I need for the job? Anything else to look our for or check?
Thanks, Andrew.

Just something I found: Following some of the manuals, there's a tiny wee circlip down in the centre. I can't actually remember what's behind that, but when you first do it, it looks like it's necessary to remove that circlip as well.
I found if you're replacing seals only though, don't bother trying to get that circlip out. There are no circlip pliers that will get it out. I had to use a tweezer and pick arrangement to pry it open, however found it is not needed to be removed for just replacing seals. If you're not removing that you should be done in under an hour.
It's been a few months since I did it, but I'm pretty sure the regular hand tools were all I used. Good luck with it.

Hey Andrew, what time on Friday are you planning on doing it? I'd like to see how it's done and lend a hand.

To remove the circlip I bought a cheap pair of long nose pilers, and ground down the tips to fit the circlip.
Lent them to some-one years ago, they never returned. learnt a lesson there !

Sure that will be fine, I'll be starting in the morning, after I take the kids to school, 9:30 or so. Just call before hand to make sure if you want.
Andrew.

Wun, that's for getting the piston out. A couple of pumps of the brake pedal did that for me. Just put something in front of the piston to stop it shooting out. An old brake pad / back of one of the brake pads works fine.
What's being referred to above sits behind the piston in the caliper. There is a tiny, wee seal in there, however I believe it's one that rarely needs replacing.

I've had to do this too - the handbrake kept locking on a brake, and it turned out there was a bunch of rust inside.
Circlip pliers are essential.

I think that was is my problem as well. the handbrake lever pivot in the caliper was dry and rusty. I'll have to get some long pliers to do the job properly.
