Problem with my "Pink Bits"!

Postby ForceMajeure » Wed Mar 16, 2011 3:23 pm

You may have previously read my issue with my ride height in the rear of my car, one side a little higher that the other on lowered non adjustable konis.

Anyway i was doing some research around my rear shocks and found i had pink bits hanging out of the shock dust boots, and on further inspection large sections were broken off on both rears which i have now removed, the drivers side being noticeably worse.

Now, are these "pink bits" the actual bump stops and so do they affect my ride height when the car is stationary?

Are these standard on a NB8A or is this an aftermarket bumpstop?

I thought the shock dust boots were also the bumpstops, so are these even bumpstops or some added extra. :?

is it like a worn out pink? sort of brownish? If it is ist stock, (in the cars ive worked on (not miata's) they were usually a brownish pink like colour).

Bump stops can be ripped off any car with the same size shock. (most 4 cylinders have the same size) just goto your local wrecker, tell them u need bump stops or go buy real ones. Real ones from my memory were $40 aftermarket decent ones but just a second hand same sh*t as ur old one perfectly working shldnt be more than $15 (for 2/4)

Yes, they are pink but look brown when covered in dust and grease etc, if you snap one in half they are pink inside.

bump stops should effect ride height.

normally it is a sign of old worn shocks with you have uneven heights of around 0-20mm.

Well given i had my suspension done 6 weeks ago you can imagine im not too happy about it!

I did ask that if these need replacing please let me know.

I haven't even looked at the front ones yet but i imagine they will not be looking too good either.

On the bright side im hoping this is the ride height issue ive been looking to fix.

So why in this link do they not use the ones like i have, or is this an NA which is different and dosnt have the extra bump stops?

After inspecting the rears, i have pulled one bumpstop out on the passenger rear as its totally split in half, but the ride height is no where near affected as there is about 3 inches between the top of the shock mount and the shock, if that makes any sense.

Basically with the koni kit i have it lowers the back i would think 1 inch and around 1.5 inches at the front, so the bumpstops on the back have no bearing on ride height from my calculations.

I now need to look at all the other bumpstops which i suspect will be stuffed as well. So my ride height issue is still with me and i need new bumpstops, which is a sh*t situation to be in 6 weeks after i got new shocks fitted. :frown:
