Hey all,

Looking for some expret advice.... what is the actual difference (if any) between a coilover set up and a spring/schock set up?

Opinions on which one is best would also be appreciated :)

Thanks everyone!

The differences:

Spring / Shock combination. Can be had for under $1,200.
Height is determined by the spring manufacturer and is fixed.
Shock damping, both compression and rebound is preset unless you use adjustable shocks.

Coil overs Starts from $1,000.
Two types:
One you can adjust the height independently of the preload of the spring. The other you can’t.
The shock comes in a number of configurations. Fully adjustable for compression and rebound, adjustable for rebound only and a preset compression and rebound.

Which is best?
Depends on what you are using the car for.
Track only - you need coil overs due to adjustability.
Road and track - your choice, depends on how deep your pockets are.
Road only. Coil overs are a waste of money in my opinion, which won’t be share by all. Going with a spring/shock combo you can get close to the height you want in most cases with the available springs and there are more choices in shock manufacturer’s t get the ride you are seeking.

Of cause this is another how long is a piece of string question.
