i've seen very similar from aussie wheel suppliers. any reason they have been eliminated as an option?

I don't think anyone in Aus imports Chapparals. They are made specifically for the MX-5 by R-Speed. OP wasn't asking about look-alikes (Rota RBs are similar but are priced @ $950 a set locally).

Aust rims havent been eliminated... That's why im asking for what people believe to be the best rims for an NA....

There's so much choice out there (good and bad) and some peoples taste is seriously nuts. Plus, i dont think 17's look that good on a NA...IMO

That is cheap, especially the freight at around $150.Usually it is about $320 fron the US.

I got a set that i sold to Juffa and then he sold to a guy in Tassie and they were $120 a wheel on special and cost around $1000 landed when the dollar was at 82 cents US.

They really do suit the NA.Performance (not so) Superlights are heavy and don't come in Mazda spec offsets.

I do have a set of new rota RB's with new Yoko 195/50x15s sitting in my garage ,probably a bit good to go on my 121 Metro "going to the shops" car and besides i just picked up a set of NA 6 daisy wheels for $50 on Ebay, so the Rota's could be up for sale soon.

Good luck!

Peter.

ps. photos available in the cars for sale section 96 LE for sale.

That guy in Tassie would be a bloke and that bloke would be me :D

As for the wheels, I think they are great. I often get complimented on them. I wouldnt know about their weight but they look great and really suit the car.

I had a set (of Chaps) on my NB back in the states. I don't think they are 8kg - that's pretty dang heavy.

You may be right i did weigh them on the bathroom scales, it is a long time ago but 16 lbs rings a bell.

Peter.

To get back to the OP's point... Is the objective looks or performance? Most general road users wouldn't notice much difference between a 8kg wheel vs a 5kg wheel (all other things being equal), but if you autocross or track the car...

So "best" in what sense?

"Best" is best described as look and road performance - not track.

I then got this email from them a couple of days later.

Chris,

Thank you again for your order. We can't send the wheels & tires through USPS Priority Mail, because of Australia's postal restrictions on over-sized packages. The only carrier that we have is FedEx International Economy. The shipping is very expensive, but we can offer you a $50 discount.

Shipping for Wheels & Tires = $619.88 - $50 = $569.88

Shipping Wheels ONLY = $359.35 - $50 = $309.35

You've already paid $142.31 for the shipping so this will be subtracted from the shipping prices above.

Please let us know what you decide.

Best Regards,

Mariela Manduley
