Hey I'm looking to buy a set of wheels but they are only available in 4x114.3. The problem is that all of you know this won't fit to an mx5 sadly...
The wheels in question are Konig Rewinds and are 15x7 +0


I know wheels can be re-drilled to accommodate a different stud patterns and has been done with these wheels before on an mx5.

What are your opinions on this? Are the wheels strong enough to take it without compromising the integrity of the centers? Have any of you tried?

Nobody tell me that this is not done because I've seen it before.

I've been reading about re-drilling and how specialists will put some metal bit into the original holes, weld over and sand back then repaint

Never used a redrilled wheel, it just sounds dodgy to me. Especially welding up a hole and then drilling it out again.

if not Rota RB looks similar, and is available in 4x100
as is Sportmax/XXR 513

Hey buddy! If someone can find them available in that pcd then great! But I've read and even been told on this forum that they're strictly 4x114.3. You can get them in other offsets in our pcd but I only have my eye on the 15x7 +0 which is only in the pcd I mentioned earlier.

I used to like the RB way back but to be honest the dish is way too flat with is an instant turn off and the spokes are the 'wrong' shape. I like the straight spokes with the 90 degree bends to center.
Sportmax 513 will be the go to wheel if I can't fine these, I'm just not a fan of the weight on them and the sizes available.

Why not look at some genuine Watanabe's or maybe even some superlites? They all have good offsets (custom offset with watanabe) and are 4x100 if you want. Sure it will cost more but... do I really need to explain why they would be better then redrilled konig wheels . As to the comment about welding up the hole and drilling it again - in this case you don't do it like that... As there is space available you are able to drill these wheels to be 8 stud (100/114.3). Of course then you have the problem of it looking a bit messy by being multi-stud. I don't think you have to worry about it being unsafe... It's not like these wheels are going to be controlling huge amounts of power around a track (correct me if I'm wrong...).

Hey thanks for the link! I've been meaning to register on cr.net for AGES but haven't gotten around to it. I've just registered but I have to wait for an admin/moderator to approve my registration before I can view the link.

But replying to the drilling, what I meant was they drill new holes in the spaces between the original ones and yeah it will look like a ghetto multifit. But what I meant is that I've heard of them plugging the original holes and sanding back and repainting so the brand new pcd is the only thing showing and the wheels look more legit!

I wish to god I could afford real watanabe's though... These look a lot like the old Watanabe AB series which is my favorite.

Craig at TrackSide can organise re drilling if you want to go that way. He got some done for me a few years back. It could end up been fairly expensive, maybe worth giving him a call and seeing what her reckons.

Yup re-drilling can be done. but as above, it can be expensive and also can end in heartache. or you buying a new wheel.

Many other brands out there that have that style and are in 4x100 pcd. Put the moeny from re-drilling them towards new rims.

Does anybody else know another wheel that looks the same as this but in 4x100 with 15x7 +0 dimensions and offset? No Rota crap, no offence but in my opinion regardless of the conjecture about build quality, aesthetically alone I think they got the spokes wrong and the dish isn't stepped at all.

I even went looking for legit Watanabe's but could only find 4x114.3 in the size I want. Sometimes I hate Mazda for giving us a crappy Honda pcd... All the offsets are wrong in our stud pattern
So yeah I can't find any wheels in 4x100 with the stepped dish and dead straight spokes with the right angle at the end where they meet in th center (like the rewinds and Watanabe's)

You can get Watanabes custom made to your exact specs, but I can't imagine it's cheap.

If you're really keen start browsing Yahoo Japan and you'll find something that takes your fancy soon enough.

Second what Jeo said about watanabe - you can email them custom width, offset and stud pattern. I'd be weary about buying second hand wat's online... Apparently as they get older they crack (then again I'd expect this from any older wheel - I guess the fact that some are made from magnesium contributes to this). I only say this as you aren't going to be able to closely inspect the ones you find on yahoo.jp.
