Hi all

Currently replacing my shocks and am having a he'll of a time separating the upper ball joint... Rather than resorting to the "long bolt method", does anyone have some tips on separating the ball joint?

Thanks

sledgehammer and downward pressure

using a crowbar or some long bar to give you leverage, lean on the bar while at the same time giving the control arm a whack. Dont whack the ball joint, hit the control arm where the ball joint seats. It wont loosen slowly it will release at once (with a jolt) so leave the nut threaded loosely on the ball joint.

so just to clarify - you want to be levering down the lower control arm as you whack the upper. When the joint clears the seat, the upper arm will be stopped rebounding up by the nut you left on the end of the ball joint. Get a 2nd pair of hands to assist you if needed.

I just wanted to ensure your safety by clarifying :)

You may have to hit it a few times before it gives
