Found out in the recent rain that the Trampios on the NA LE I just bought had hardened with age and had VERY little grip to a wet surface. The car had literally been dríven on Sundays, so while the tyres looked OK...

Fortunately didn't hit anything, but it was quite off putting entering Macquarie Street sideways in peak hour traffic. Following advice from this and other forums I got a set of Bridgestone RE001's. Why am I telling you this? Because I seem to have got them for a reasonable price at the Bridgestone Select dealer in Five Dock in Sydney - $110 each fitted and balanced. AND they don't use the air gun to tighten the wheel nuts. I saw the guy pick up a wheel brace and do it by hand. I said I was really pleased to see that, and he said they always do it by hand. On that basis alone I'll go back to them. Another tyre place quoted $150 eash for the same tyres.

re001 are good bang for buck

Agree. I replaced brand new looking, but 7yo, Dunlops with RE001 and the ride was noticeably better. Also slashed 3 sec from my previous Wakefield PB! And yes, they are great value in 185/60 14s.

i've hit the 35,000 mark on my proxes 4. they've been on the car for about 3 years now and are starting to go hard due to only being dríven on saturdays. there's a few corners where i usually drive comfortably at about 40-50 KPH. now i've gotta slow it down to just 40 - car gets a bit too tail happy.

still considering my options. i'd love the re001's but out of my budget. currently looking at kumho ku31 or ku36

Less then a year ago I bought a set of 205/40x17s, for $200 each. Also got a $50 Bunnings gift voucher, which was nice

What size do u need?

205/50 or 205/45?

am looking for 215/45
got a few prices from o1g. pretty good prices, about $90 -115 a tyre

There are a lot of differing opinions about RE001s. Personally, I've been delighted with the two sets I've had on my NA6. They are fantastic in the dry and grip in the wet is acceptable although a little less than ideal (they are only "A" rating for wet traction). Other people have real problems with them in the wet. They are also pretty soft so don't expect them to last too long.

I feel like a broken record:

I really like my RE001's.
No trouble with traction wet or dry.
Bettered my previous Queensland Raceway lap times over my previous Yokohama A048's by a few seconds despite feeling more sketchy at the limit.
One million times quieter on the street than A048's.
About $140 fitted for my 195/50/15's.
