I have a 1989 na mx5
I am looking for options for a rear brake upgrade
I have upgraded the front to willwood 4 pots with 280mm drilled rotors.
Will newer na rear brakes or nb rear brakes work???
My opinion the rears are now lacking while under heavy braking.
options please people who have done or know of upgrades please post

NA8 and NB8A rears bolt straight in.

To elaborate, you'll only really need the NA8/NB8A brackets. The caliper itself is the same. Though they have a tendency to seize so it may be more economical to do a complete upgrade.

The NA has a bias towards the front brakes anyway. I would start with a changing the proportioning valve to an NB one to get a bit more rear bias.
Matty has a write up on his cardomain page.

fattima is correct, the nb bias valve mod is a good thing. matty's article explains the why and how perfectly. i got mine from mx5 plus and fitting is a doddle. you may still wish to fit the nb brakes (i'd aready fitted them before i did the mod), but try this first and see how you go. you can get the brakes from mx5 plus, too. that's where i got mine.

The alternative to the NB bias valve upgrade is the Willwood proportioning valve. It's a good option - let's you adjust to suit different driving styles, tracks, loads and tyres.

yeah, unless you can source a used one, the Wilwood is cheaper - get one from Flyin Miata with the fittings and it's a bolt on job. plus it's adjustable as necessary, which it will need to be with your front brakes.

Under light braking you'll still be compromised until you physically upgrade the rotor size.

i take it its www.flyingmiata.com???? That sounds like a great option. Im going to do the NB rear brake conversion as well. Just want to souce some discs (drilled??) and some pads to equal the front setup any advice or opinions???

Not drilled. The drillholes form a focal point for creation of cracks. Slotted or plain is OK for the rears.

I have heard of the flyin miata kit for the rear breaks but you re use the calipers from the NB8B they just give you a new bracket and a slighly larger diameter rotor (I think thats how it works correct me if im wrong).

However i would rather just junk my rear caliper and get a rear caliper where you don't have to do the stupid allan key thing to close the gap (I just want it automatic like the stock fronts)?

Anyone know a solution???
