Hi all

I know this topic has been brought up 100 times over but I need some clarification...

I have just purchased a set of beautiful black RPF1 17x8 with +45 for my NC1 and have been reading for days about the tire choices.

215/45/17 - seem to look a little stretched
225/40/17 - would be great but cant get them
235/40/17 - prob some fender rolling (which I dont mind but will have to find someone local to do it)

I am wanting to run Adrenalin RE001 or something comparable for just street use. Went down to the local Bob Jane but were very unhelpful with regards to overall diameter...I dont want the car to feel sluggish with a taller setup and it seems that here in QLD there is a pretty set limit for this also.

Is anyone able to shed some light on this for me?

Kumho has 225/40R17 options...

Not in the type of tyre I'm looking for from what I can see on their site. Something a little more aggressive. Does anyone have first hand experience with 17x8 +45 with 235/40's? according to miata.net the rolling diameter is exactly where I need to be...

There is a good tyre size calculator at 1010 Tires website: http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp

Just be aware that it will calculate any size you enter; it doesn't necessarily mean that the tyre size is available.

Standard overall diamter for a 235/40R17 us 620mm.
Qld allows -26mm and +15mm in overall diameter compared to the tyre size(s) shown on the tyre placard for replacement tyre sizes.

Thanks for the info, the 235/40 looks to be the tyre of choice due to rolling diameter and amount of rubber I can get on the road comfortably. Now to find someone I can trust with a guard roller

235 on a 8" is pretty extreme, it will be pretty baggy from what I recall

This is with 255-40 on a 17x8

The 235 should be a better fit I hope. According to the big forum, if the tyres I choose have nice stiff sidewalls, I should have a comfortable setup and be a happy chap!

Sorry Deen, but no. The minimal demand makes it uneconomical to stock this size.

Thanks for that. I understand about stocking these sizes, but are you able to bring these in on order? I think there are at least 3 people I know that are interested in a set each. The alternative is to buy it directly from the US, comes to about A$1200/- incl. shipping, but hoping we can buy it locally instead, as it would probably be cheaper to get them shipped in rather than paying seperately for shipping for each set..

Doable? Please let me know.

I just PMed Hamx5ter regarding importing tyres from Goodwin Racing and thought others should know this information too so that they don't waste Goodwin racing's time since they will not export tyres (I did order their tubular Racing Beat Sway Bar and Endlinks though):

Here's a summary of my questions regarding importing 225/45/15's tyres from Goodwin Racing:

I live in Australia and cannot get a set of 225/45/15 tyres so am looking to
import a set. I have a 2004 MX5 MazdaSpeed and have just purchased a set of
6UL 15x8 rims for it so need new tyres to match. We can get 205/50/15 tyres
here but I think they look like "too much tyre" on an NB MX5. I've also just
installed a set of BC BR Coilovers to help avoid the "4WD look".

You guessed it, our tires here are "DOT"...they meet the rules of our
Department of Transportation. Every major country has their own rules and
the tires sold within those countries need to have the markings for that
country, etc.


So the bottom line is that Goodwin will not export tyres. There are other quarantine issues with importing tyres too, there's a thread talking about it on our forum, so I've given up on the thought of importing tyres from the US.

I've just purchases Yoko S.Drives for the NC from Tire Rack in the States. I have been told by 3 different tyre shops here in Brisbane that as long as they are DOT rated, they are 100% legal. They need to state their ratings on the sidewall otherwise Australian shops will not fit them.

I did my homework on this one as didnt want to waste $850 on tyres I cant use

FYI shipping isnt too bad at $294.95 US for a set of 235/40-17's
