PP2 Lovers Community Service Anouncement

I'm not sure if everyone is aware but Michelin have discontinued the Pilot Preceda (PP)2 range. They have been replaced by the apparently excelent Pilot Sport (PS)3. At this stage however, Michelin doesn't stock a 205/45/16 size in the PS3 or in any of their Australian tyre range.

Due to an altercation with a branch lying on the road on the weekend I needed to get one new PP2 so I have discovered that as at 4:30pm 21st June there are only five 205/45/16 PP2's left in Australia. So if you want a new set of 16" PP2's you had better get in quick.

They should have the 205/50/16 which is technically the wrong size, the last three sets of tyres I have run have all been 205/50/16 with zero problemo's.

Of note several guy run the Kumho KU36 which are (IIRC) 215/50/16 benefits:- super gooey and more than a steal @$137 each

Down sides, and these are one persons reports from a brief two minute discussion today:
not as good in the wet as PP2's, unsurprising really given the near R Spec pattern of the KU36
and
tyre life is about 1/2 depending on the punishment meted out to them.

Upsides
Stupendousely Gooey
price is unbeatable, near R Spec performance at 1/3 the price.

btw Julio from "Jules & Mummy dot com" has the PS3's on Malibu and he swears they are the ducks nuts.

I'm looking forward to trying the PS3's, but looks like I might have to make the PP2's last a bit longer until we get 205/45/16's available here. They are listed on the UK website for example, so it is a size they make. I guess we just have to hope that the Aus distributors see the need for them...

I never tried the PP2's, but I am stupidly impressed with the road holding (wet or dry) of the PS3's after 1000kms. Lack of "future" availability made the final decision, as I did had the option of either tyre.

We anxiously await the PS3 vs RE001 debate.

Wet weather braking tests show the PS3 stopping around 4m shorter from 80km/h than the RE001

Yes but you will find that those were the Azerbaijani sourced RE001s, the Slovenian ones were measured at 3.8 metres . . . . longer again

Great news, but anybody have information concerning 215/40/17 for an SE? (205 is stock, but 215 is ok on the 7" rim)

Price wise, I'm leaning towards the BF Goodrich G Force Profilers for $199 per corner fitted (incl GST) as they present pretty good value for the money - and another member with a turbo MX on here is running the G Force Sport for less money, with no problems.

But having said that, I'm open to other opinions, as I'm running Nexen N6000 at the moment, with a 300 treadwear, so they'll last fine, but they're average in the wet and dry! (They came with the car :? )

BTW if you are in Qld and want some great service and even better price on a set of PS3's, go talk to the guys at Bob Jane Nerang.
They managed to get me into a set of 195/50/15 fitted, balanced and aligned to Lanny's specs for $800.00 all up.

I've been going to them for a few years now, and they have always been excellent. The aligner even came out to have a quick chat with me when he saw the requested camber

Out of interest, what is the treadwear rating of PS3s that are being sold here? I checked tirerack, and they only have PS3s in a very limited size range (18" and 19" for Mercedes & Audi vehicles), and they come with a 320 AA A UTQG rating. Same here?
