Boss Frog fender braces (Install and review)

Postby charlie_91 » Wed Jun 02, 2010 6:03 pm

Ok so i had a chance to install the fender braces last night. This is the review.

Boss Frog 'Frog Arms'

When you first receive these braces they are very good quality. THe welds that are one them are good and the brace itself is sturdy yet light.

Installing these requires take the fenders off to get access to the mounting points.
To take the fenders off put the front of the car on jack stands and start by taking off the wheels.

The next step is taking off the inner fender liner. This is easily done by unscrewing the plastic plugs and pulling them out.
The next step is to get on to removing the fender. The instructions give a ok whereabouts as to where the
bolts are but its pretty self explanatory. Be sure to remove the bolts ontop of the front bumper so u can reach one of the hard to get fender bolts.

Once the fender is off all you have to do is pull out the wiring out of the grommet, and remove the required bolts from the instructions.

Once installed put fender back on the do the other side. Then wheels back on and drive :D

The install itself is pretty easy. It just takes time.

Frist drive:

As soon as i installed them i quickly dropped my car and took it for a drive. As soon as you take the first corner you can feel it.
The steering is much more sharper and direct, there is less body roll and the front scuttle shake is gone.
Even when driving over train tracks its 3 times better to say the least. Less shimmy at high speeds.

Overview:

Pros:
Reduced skuttle shake in front
Direct turn into corners
Less body roll
At high speed the car is very stable (no shimmy)
Solid front end feel
Reduce impact of bumps and train tracks
PRICE

Cons:
Install maybe ?

These braces are brilliant bang for buck and really do make the ride alot more enjoyable.
I recommend these to every mx5 driver. You will not be disappointed.

Been waiting for Captain Sensible to make a post here, but it looks like I'll have to instead. :D

These are indeed a great product for a race car. On a road car however, you will void your insurance if you have an accident, and you will have radically altered the crush structure of the car, so they may well cause injury in a front end prang. The sacrifice made for a safer car may sometimes mean less body stiffness.

each to there own.
Another well thought of brace is the butterfly brace. But doesnt that interfere with your brake lines ?

Im a safe driver, i dont plan on having any crashes but playing around with my brake lines for the butterfly brace seems more risky then these putting these fender braces on.
