hey all.
i have a na6 and i want to upgrade the brakes for some track time and spirited w/end driving.
i was thinking of getting na8 onwards hardware but have been looking at some of the willwood kits from the usa...
the willwoods are approx $900 usd for 4 piston calipers, slotted rotors, pads, lines, fluid.
if i were to source some na8+ stuff it will be about the same price if not more! (calipers will be seccond hand also)
so are the willwoods worth it or what else is out there for decent bolt on brakes??
a bit off topic but has anyone used mg tf brakes on an mx5 before?
just looking at them they are the same size car with very similar stud pattern/wheel size and the calipers are 4 piston AP's that can be bought quite cheap?
just a thought...

You really only need NA8 brakes unless your doing some serious racing. $500 for front and back from MX5 plus:
http://www.mx5plus.com.au/part_list.php?mod=partModel01Or take sprx3 up on his offer and just do the front,
I put NA8 fronts on mine and a brake bias valve to get the backs working a little harder, more than happy with it.

Just got an e-mail offer in this morning that might interest you.
Maybe you should look at this deal at MX5 Parts, new rotors and pads packages for the 1.6 & 1.8, it’s only on untill next week and remember you don’t pay their VAT but you do pay transport.
http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info. ... ts_id/1109http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info. ... ts_id/1110That price is only about $30 more than I pay for just pads on the NC

As the other guys mention, anything more than NA8/NB8A brakes is overkill for your use.
I run an NB8A for track duties which is heavier and faster than your car and I run std NB8A brakes (albeit Hawk pads, braided lines and good fluid) and I have absolutely no issues with brake fade, or insufficient braking capacity.
Unless you are after the bling factor then Wilwoods are just a waste of your money.

im not trying to be smart but why is sprx3 upgrading if the nb brakes are up to the task?? and what are you upgrading to?
(pm me a price zoran cos i dont really know what they are worth either)
i should have also mentioned my car has a turbo fitted (130rwkw) and should have around 200rwkw soon.
after about 3 laps at philip island with 1.6 calipers, slotted rotors and some sort of non standard pad i started to get fade..

At 200kw then I reckon willwoods start to come into the equation, you should also think about a brake bias valve. Don't forget though the brakes are only as good as the pads and fluid you choose.

Hey Buz,
The short answer to your question is because i can, work is bringing in a heap of extra money & the mrs is happy for me to put my o.t money into my car, i dont need the upgrade but while i have money coming in im putting it all into the car to get it as best as i can, im looking at around 250rkw after i run in my new engine & although i have been really happy flying around winton with my current brake setup getting 10 plus laps out of it with street pads i could upgrade to hawks & have even better braking & more lap time as well as harder braking but want to set up the car at its best throwing the best i can afford at it while i can, might sound silly to some but this may be the last time i get to throw decent money at my baby before we have kids & the funds drain away so im making the most of it...
I ordered this
http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Performance-Part/60-10915.html today & should have it in the next couple of weeks so if your interested let me know....
as for price i really dont know, lets ask for a life line & see what everyone thinks is a happy medium for both of us, im not sure if i retain my current brackets or not so once i find out (or if someone knows) we will work out if they come with my current set up, & if you want the rear rotors they can come with it too, the fronts are slotted also...
guys can you help out with a reasonable price for both of us???

yeah they were the kits i was looking at but front only (bad idea??) with bias valve
http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Pe ... -1010.htmlor
http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Pe ... -0422.htmlthe top ones are aprox. $1200 aud converted (how much for postage zoran?)
the standard 1.8's with good pads, fluid and lines have always sounded like a sufficient option but for a few extra hundred get a complete package that would last whatever was thrown at them (if the wilwoods are even capable in the first place..??)
but yeah still throw up some prices or suggestions people. if i dont end up going that path someone will snap them up.
cheers

Hey Kris,
After emailing Brian at goodwin he was able to send the whole 4 corner set up for around 170 U.S, so im guessing the front set up will be a little less.....
mate pm me what you think my set up is worth, even if you dont buy them at least i'll have an idea of what people are willing to spend on an upgrade.... ;)

For what it's worth buz, I run standard NA6 brakes on my track car, with standard $32 solid rotors and Carbotech brake pads from 949 racing in the US of A. Cannot complain about the performance of this setup at all. Car stops well, no brake fade and lots of feel.

thanks for the reassurance.
i have decided to take sprx3's nb calipers and slotted rotors off his hands. i'll add some stainless lines, some good fluid, bias adjuster and possibly some hawk hp+ pads...anything wrong with the above choices??
from ebay..
goodrich lines- aprox. $200
hawk hp front pads- aprox $150
anywhere local to get them?
cheers
