Well, adter this weekend i am seriously thinking about a set of 15x8 6UL wheels from MX5 centre, i tried a pair on the back of my car at the vic dodgey day and they were brilliant!

The only thing left to ponder over now is RUBBER!

I have a rough idea of what to get, the rubber on the ones pictured were Kumho semi's in 225/45r15, i wouldnt mind running a 215/50r15 but i beleive with a higher profile i will be more prone to scrubbing.

I am running auto exe lowering springs and can barely fit a cocke can underneath the car. When i took them for a spin i pushed it quite a bit and no scrubbing at all, i have 1.50 neg camber on the back.

This is taken from the 949 site...

15x8 195/45 - 195/50 - 205/50 - 215/45 - 225/45 fit standard length dampers no rubbing at all ride heights. 225/45 may require trimming liner with short body coilovers with short body coilovers that allow the suspension to compress further than stock. 225/50 fit NB's fine, NA's require trimming liners with short body coilovers. 225/45 at least -1.25* front camber recommended for the NA, NB's clear with stock alignment

I use 205 50 15's on my 8 inch wheels. they are nice and flush with no stretch. I don't think you will need 215's.

I'll go for 225 purely of the 'fatness' factor :)
Have a look at Mactype old car pic from the rear, that's pretty much sold it for me.

It's funny you say that, they are his old wheels :P Bruce now has mactypes car

FWIW its not the rears you'll have problems with the higher profile its the fronts, especially if the cars dumped. With the 225/45's I had a small bit of rubbing on the fronts at the track and had to do some fettling to stop it.

Your only drama with the 225's is tyre choice but the Kumhos in a hard compound make a top road type and from the wear rates I observed would be quite long lived, I also feel its near the perfect size tyre for a 5 as you get some width keeping a low profile that helps with gearing (I don't give a toss what the cardigans think about wide tyres on a 5 either). I'd be looking at a medium compound if your leaning more for track work however, probably a sec or so in that.

I was toying with picking up a set of 6UL 15x9's on the rear keeping the 8's on the front and running the 225's all round - would look the hotness. :D

How did the wheels feel Cheyne? Obviously more grip, any cons?

This must be the Gen2 6UL, I remember they are being 6+ KG. Pretty impressive.

Thats actually really lite for such a wide rim with such a low offset....

I'm kinda impressed.

When I picked them up I thought it was kinda heavy must be the rubber.

Well from Someone who is used to driving on hero economy tyres in 185/60/14 I thought they were great, I went through an open right hander in second at about 50kmph and sqeezed the throttle to full, where my satndard wheels would kick out and slide these wheels simply stuck, they actually stuck so well that when the back wheels gave the extra kick of grip, it caused the 14"s on the front to squeel and understeer.

So I can safely say I'm impressed, I will go 8's all around though I think, just personal pref :D

By the way, i am not too interested in rolling the guards, i actually would love to avoid it.

I have looked at some different rubber, a few that i have looked at are Bridgeston Potenza RE001, Falken Ziex ZE912 and Toyo T1R.

Are any of these at all good?

Falken is sh*t, unless its RT.

Good is Re001, T1r is good, best for street imo Toyo R1R

Also why not roll, its not that bad, just get it done properly u wont even notice it.

Join the club! This is next on my list as soon as the latest round of modifications are completed with MX52NV. I will probably be running 15x8 6ULs in Matt Bronze with 225/50/R15 RE55s all around.

You should post pics up once they are on and then everyone will start wanting some. :P

Matte bronze would look gangster les! I am not sure when i am going to get a set, was chatting to my dad and he mentioned that insurence would also go up :| I didnt really think of that untill now, would it go up by much?

I probably wont get the wheels for another few months anyway, need to save my pennies a bit :D

If i did need to roll the guards just a touch, is there somewhere in melbourne where i could get a quality job done at a reasonable price? i am thinking i may try to stick with a 45 profile rubber to reduce risk of rubbing aswell.i do also have a bit more room for camber adjustment :) not sure how much though.
