Performance street tyre recs for NC

OK, I just scored some Enkei RPF1's for my 2007 NC. they are 17x8 +45.
I need to consider what tyres to get, either 215's or 225s are going on it in either 40 or 45 profiles. I had really expected just to grab some Toyo T1r's but have only just read some reviews onboard here about peoples comments on soft sidewalls. I thought the T1R's solved the T1S's sidewall problems, So this has come as quite a shock. Now I'm really not sure what to get. If anyone could put forward some rec's, it would be much appreciated. These will be 100% for street (I will keep my stockies for track days). I'm bascially after a grippy tyre, not too soft. hopefully quiet but certainly one that proves better performance in the wet than the stock Bridgestones (RE050As??)...a couple of occasions have been scary of late

Michelin Pilot Preceda 2 mate, none better on the market
done 34k on our PP1's & still going (includes trackdays) quiet, strong sidewalls & great wet & dry grip......& I've been told the PP2's are a pretty big step up from the PP1's

I've heard good things about Yokohama S drives. Otherwise PP2 or RE050A (which I've been happy with except they're very expensive) or even Adrenalins.

First up you'd be crazy to fit 215s to the 8" rim. Go for the 225s.
As I said in another thread to you, you can't get PP2s in a 225 or 235x40 so the Michelins are out.
Having just come off shagged T1-Rs thinking they weren't much chop after the PP1s, I fitted some Bridgestone RE001s (Adrenalins) as a number of people on this site said they were very good. At this stage with almost 2,000 kilometres up on them I can report that they have an aversion to wet roads. So much so that the shagged T1-Rs were better!!!! Dry road grip is down also and I’m just about to back my adjustable sway bar off at the rear to see if I can get some grip happening there in the dry. We’ll as the old saying goes, you only get what you pay for. The RE001s were a $100 per tyre cheaper than the PP2s.
So back to your original question on what you should get.
As the PP2’s are available and you are going down to a 40 profile the T1-Rs will probably suit you down to the ground. Otherwise why not try some Toyo R1Rs? E-mail BigDog as he has fitted the R1Rs and see if they are noisy as that is probably the only draw back that I could see in getting them.

I've heard lots of good things about Kumho tyres lately - cheap but still very effective. There is a deal on Kumhos being organised through a Silvia forum (don't ask!).

Yep, 225/40, 235/40 not available in 17's.
Going to a 45 profile in a 225 or 235 would stuff the acceleration.

Correct, i had the same problem. Ended up going with 215 profile anyhow as it's still a wider contact patch than before, and i wasn't sure if the 45 offset would rub. Turns out if the ride height isn't too low i could go wider. Will be interesting to see what you come up with Lucifuge (i take it your the guy i've been chatting to on Flickr
)
I've been a huge fan of Preceda's in the past, and they still fail to dissapoint. The new ones have markedly improved wet weather grip too, really very very impressive.
