NA8 Wheel Alignment

From various advise from people and documentation that I've read, it seems the best improvement that I can do to my MX5 for the track is to get a good wheel alignment.

My question is...can I get this alignment done from any spealist wheel and tyre service centre? Or is there a specific specialist that I should go to?

Any recommendation? I'm from the Northern Suburbs of Sydney.

Thanks in advance.

POST ADDED: By the way, what are the symptoms of a bad wheel aligment, or rather what does a bad wheel alignment do to the way the car behaves on the track?

Go to the experts. Heasman's at Sydnham or Spinning Wheel at Waterloo. For a North Shore place give Peninsular Sportscars a ring and ask Brett who he advises.

I've posted the alignment spec's up here before. You will need to do a search.

Symptoms of a bad alignment. Poor handling. Car crabs down the road. Poor turn-in. Rear wants to overtake the front under hard brakes. Lack of grip. Car wanders or pulls to the side, etc., etc.

I went to Spinning Wheel about six weeks ago and found them to be excellent. THey have some clever equipment which measures all sorts of stuff I have no idea about. Their alignment rigg has cameras on it which triangulate the position of the wheels relative to one another :? They also really seemed to know how to set the car up the way I wanted it to drive. I did not need to provide specs because they knew what to do. I have forgotten his name but the guy who does the alignments loves MX5s because they have so much adjustibility. He said to try my alignment out and come back if I wasn't happy and thought it needed changing. They keep everything on record so you can just rock up the next time and tell them you want more turn in or less oversteer etc... Although my car was not far from my ideal specs it surprised me how much more controllable at the limit it became after the alignment. Best $50 mod I have done. Best too book though as he seems to be busy doing alignments all day especially towards the end of the week.

i got my alignment done at Heasman... Princess Hwy, Sydenham... (maybe a bit far for u, Hammer!) costed sth around $80.... I think they are pretty good... just tell them what you uses your car for.... and they will know what setting is good for u..... best to give them a call and book a time.... they are always busy..... 9557-3739....

i just find that bad alignment woren out your tyres much much quicker than normal....and it is a pain when the woren out is uneven on 4 corners..... dunno if u should replace one or two... or all 4 tyres at once....

Torcu Tyres at Greenacre do a very good job , just tell them what you what to use your car for or give them your own spec's.

I've been going to Spinning Wheel for years after trying other MX5 favoured places like East Coast Suspension and Heasmans and found Stu at Spinning Wheel to be awesome. I told him what I wanted the car to do and first guess it wasn't quite right. But Stu said to try it and if I dont like it come back and he'll try something else, at no charge. So I went back and whatever he did was awesome. Every time I went in for an alignmenty he tried something a bit different and each time it got better. Now it's set up exactly how I want it and the settings are on file so it gets set up the same way every time.

So if you know what settings you want then pretty much any descent aligner can set your car up, but if you want to work with someone to get it set up how you want then I highly recomend Stu at Spinning Wheel

Hammer,

The difference a average wheel alignment and good alignment can be unbelievable, today after a wheel alignment set slightly different to what I normally run, I bettered my best time by.............................4.13sec, everything the same except alignment.

Just checked the wheel alignment sheet that I got when I bought my NA6. It has 0.6mm total toe-in on the rear. No wonder it was twitchy!
