hi people,
i just want to have a whinge and ask for some advice.

i recently saved very hard for a set of racing logic coil overs.., had them fitted and waited for them patiently.

I got the car, didnt have any problems with it, handled great, but noticed it was sitting unnecessarily high. so i decided to have a play with them, try dump the car on its guts, and see how she looked. I took off the rear wheel, and went to wind down the suspension, it couldnt go any lower, just higher. so i moved to the front. it could be adjusted to a decent height.

so immediatly i thought to myself, it was a mis-application.., they have put NA coil-overs into a NB!!! the mechanics must have known about this mistake, but tried to play dumb and see whether id notice! i checked with a few other suspension shops that i had dealt with in the past, and they also said, most likly a mis-application, its apparently quite common and happens a lot, but they usually pick up on it, and dont send it home with the customer!!

im pretty upset, as i had to eat 2 min noodles and for the last 6 months to get this minor upgrade!!

i went back to the mechanics and told them about it, he said hed get back to me, but never did! Thats really poor practice! im not making a million dollars a yr, i have a young family and a disabled son.., for me to save any kind of money, im making HUGE sacrifices.., this really made me upset.., i pray everything turns out well.., and i get what i have paid for!

Hi Nich,

The best people in this case would be to speak with the consumer affairs people in your state.
Make sure you log every call/email or correspondence that you have with the mechanic detailing down to date, time and what was discussed.

Something like this had happened with a mate a PC he bought from a big retailer, he had a long dialogue with the retailer which didn't get sorted out in the manner that he had wanted and now he has gotten the total amount of the original purchase back.

But you do need to show that you have tried on multiple occasions to get the error fixed by amicable means with the vendor with no satisfactory conclusion.

I don't quite understand, the difference between na and nb shocklength is minimal and with coilovers you have a great difference in height adjustment. perhaps your rear shocks aren't even for an mx5. someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i an converting my na to nb suspension at the moment using nb top hats because nb shocks are slightly longer than na shocks. in my mind if they had installed na coilovers instead of nb, your car should sit lower. but as i say if i'm wrong someone please hit me with the idiot stick and put me right.

Is the issue with the shock body length or the spring length? You can always fit new (shorter) springs, they should be standard sized for most coilovers.

If the shock body is too long, that's a different story - to check this (properly), remove the spring and reinstall the shock and bumpstop, then jack up the suspension arm until it lifts off your stands. Ideally, it should lift off just before the control arm contacts the chassis.

Or you can just compare the shock body length to the OEM shocks...

As someone said, NA shocks are shorter than NB.

OR ... take a look for the product number on the spring and shock, that will tell you which they have fitted without any guess work.

No point making accusations until you can justify it with proof.

what okibi said. check for the product number, and cross reference with their website/dealer.

Also make sure they didn't put the front springs on the rear, the car will sit higher.

The springs have the same diameter and will fit in the shock platforms.

If the coilovers came disassembled they may have just put the springs/shock on back to front.

(Don't ask me how i know)

Ive waited patiently for for a call from the mechanics, and nothing to date

ive got the make - number etc, and tried calling racing logic, but the number they have posted on their web-site is not contactable.

they may have got the springs back to front, that could explain why the rear sits so high at its lowest setting.

what i really dont understand, is why the mechanic said to me, ive set your suspension ride height so its at its peak, its best for handling etc., but it was wound down to its absolute lowest setting, it can only go up from there, i even tried winding it the other way (up), and it was looking like a crazy 4WD..

Ill keep everyone posted on the outcome, and thanks for the great advice!
