Ive been quoted 175 for the fronts of my NB8B, Is this about as cheap as it gets.
Also the rears also slotted also 4000 series is the same price as the fronts but you get so much less cast iron does this sound right??

You're not buying by weight, the raw material cost is bugger all compared to the machining / design & development etc etc.
I paid $100 second hand for the fronts. $180ish sounds about right

Do these slotted rotors help with braking?
Hrm interesting... I might have to invest in the health and safety of the public roads.
LOL reason to buy new rotors!

All else being equal (size, width, construction etc) yes
The slots allow gases to escape between the rotor and pad, so they can feel quicker to engage (don't have to work so hard to squeeze the air out.)
Additionally, they help with cooling by offering a larger surface area, without weakening the structure like cross drilling can, and without the uneven cooling problems which can affect cross drilled rotors.
The slots may also work to wipe the surface of the pad clean of debris and resin build up etc.
However, the thermal capacity of the rotor is marginally reduced (since to make the slots they are removing material)

I installed these front only a couple of months ago, and they definately improve the braking. Much more consistent on the track, and the braking just feels more "solid". I think they're much better quality than the tin plate stock ones.

They also help considerably with wet braking!

you could always just get slots cut into your standard rotors, thats a much cheaper option. rain902 or matty could give you the details of where they got theirs done.

I don't know about the 4000 series (N/A for NB8A...) but the price difference for plain vs slotted is usually ludicrous.
I got mine slotted by John whatisname at Alloy Race Components for about $20 each I think.
Think of how much weight you'll save with all those slots!

That's a pretty decent price Wun. I got mine alot cheaper but that was knowing someone. The DBA 4000's also have the kangaroo paw internal cooling system as well as thermal markings. Not sure if they are worth the money to some people but I love mine

Matty are you saying there that the 4000 series slotted aren't available for the NB8A? I don't know whether they are a new edition to the range, but I got mine in June, so they're definately made to suit NB8A now.

That seems like a good price, I got quoted $240 plus the shipping to get them to the shop when looking for NA8 rotors. Where did you get that price from Wun?
