Hi guys,
Im just interested to know if anyone has converted their MX5's from 4x100 pcd to 114.3?
I have been looking into it, as alot of the old school jdm wheels i like are not avaliable in 4x100. Does anyone know of a 114.3 hub that will fit an MX5? The standard hub can not be drilled out to accept that pcd, so I have to try and find a replacement, or get some machined up..
any help is appreciated.

Don't know of any hubs that will fit but I think you will find getting hubs machined up will be prohibitively expensive. Have you looked into getting the wheels changed to 4x100 by a wheel repairer?
The other option would be spacers that bolt to your hubs with 4x114.3 studs for the wheel but I am guess that they wont work with the sort of offset you want to run.
You seem to change your wheels more often than you change your jocks.
No wonder you haven't done any more performance mods yet.

I have no idea if they are compatible or not, but R31 skylines have that stud pattern and the imports ran IRS rear ends. Same with the non turbo R32's and possibly 33's.
I think AE86's are the same as well.
Just something to look into if you are planning to research it. But i'm guessing redrilling hubs or getting adaptor spacers would be much easier.

you can get wheel spacers that convert the stud pattern so you can keep your stock hubs and brakes. only problem is they are about 25mm spacers and i am assuming the oldschool jap 114.3 wheels you want are about a 0 offset.

Yeah I have looked at the adaptor plates, but they seem pretty dodgy. Im looking at getting a set of SSR Mesh 15x6.5 +15 for the front, and 15x7 +8 on the back. Running the 25mm plates will push the wheels out too far.
I cant re-drill the standard hubs (taken from 949racing website) "You'll notice the center hub area is not large enough diameter to add the larger 114.3mm pattern. This is because no compromise in the 4x100 optimization was made to accomodate the larger pattern."
I might have to get my hands on a second hand hub, and take a few measurement to try find a similar replacement in 114.3, my old man is a fitter soo ill see if he can machine something up for me..

you can order ssr rims in any pcd you want brand new. however you can't get these any more. so there may be some floating around. have you had a look on

I would wait and keep looking for something which has the correct pcd. It's not much fun rooting around with adaptors, etc.

i wonder if the Familia GTX stuff can be used. fairly sure it's 4x114.3.

KF Laser TX3 is 4x114.3 so Familia is quite likely to be the same. Not sure if the vanilla models were the same as the turbo ones or not though.
It's not exactly easy to find good oldschool Jap wheels in 4x114.3 for R31's though, and anything with an offset that will suit an AE86 attracts a massive Takumi Tax.
If you can't find a way to fit te different hubs, how about some of these
http://www.axiswheels.com/wheels.php?id=ogThe OG-SAN is a half decent SSR Mesh copy, and while the offset isnt quite where you want it you could still run spacers, and they appear to have a half decent amount of dish. The OG Oldschool is about the best Equip 03 replica I could find, it doesn't look as 'wrong' as most of the others do.
I was going to get a set of both of these before I bought ES86's SSR Mk2's

I know you're trying to avoid spacers but it's worth knowing that there is a whole range of them available. Sometimes they're the only real solution. These are 15mm. You need 1.5 pitch thread for MX5s.

Those Axis OG wheels are pretty cool !
There's a picture of a 5 with the wheels on under Gallery/Other MFGs. Nice dish !

Ryan, I read that quote on the 949 site, and took it to be talking about the hub of their wheels (ie where they drill the stud holes), its part of their sales pitch for their wheels ... I don't think they are talking about the hubs that the wheels bolt up to.
Not that this means that the MX5 wheel hubs do have enough meat...

Ahhh ok... Well looking at the MX5 hub it dosnt look like there is any room to play with..
Im going to try find some measurements on the Familia hubs, they look promising.. I have also confirmed that the Ford Laser KF, and KH use the same wheel bearings as NA and NB MX5's. So ill look into that too..
