Can anyone give some good choices for tyres.
I have recently turbo charged my NA8 and since cant get any traction in 1st. Even crusing at 40-60 foot to the floor will engage a wheel spin
Granted the tyres that are on there are crap and rock hard.
Scary to drive in the wet.
I didnt want to change rims and go through all that heavy wheel stuff.
Spent enough on the turbo cant afford super lite wheels.
I have the lite weight NA8 6 inch wheels on there with 185-60-14's
Would new tyres help grip or is there just to much HP (225) for these little cheese cutters to handle.
Didnt want to effect to rolling diameter too much.
How would 195-60 14 fit a little larger rolling diameter ( speedo is a little slow anyway)
Anyone got pics of this tyre size on the standard wheels

Have you seen this post?
http://www.aus-cartalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=24296However I suspect that your particular issue (can you call this an issue?) may beyond a simple tyre change, I suspect you are going to need wider wheels (and larger diameter) wheels to give you the extra surface area.
What power are you putting out?

I run 15x7 on my NA8 turbo with 205/50/15 RE55s tyres for the track.
With 160rwkw I light up the tyres in 2nd gear in a straight line under full throttle application. This is with a Torsen lsd.
With Dunlop FM902 205/55/15 on the street I was lighting up 3rd if the surface wasn't good.
The MX5 is designed to go around corners so you are always going to struggle with traction in 1st in a FI car. There is simply too much torque.
Winding down your boost or changing to a setup that allows higher boost in higher gears could be an option.

you should have got a supercharger

Why is that?
Because superchargers dont make enough power to spin the wheels?

You could always save up for the time being, and get a set of 15x8 6ul wheels from 949 racing, that were designed for MX5's with high horsepower.
http://949racing.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=2Then you will have no problem running a 225 tyre..

no because its a much more linear delivery perfectly suited to the 5 - unlike that ghastly nothing then everything of turbos. its a Cretans sport.

A set of 15x7's, a Torsen LSD and a set of Toyo RA1's will fix that problem...maybe!

I am putting out 165 RWk with 10 pound boost.
I have a 94 clubman so I have the LSD and the stiff bilstiens.
I was thinking of a 15 X 6.5 and running a 205-50-15
The wheel a speedy Fusion and tyre Yokohama s-drive was 17 kg in total way too heavy. my current wheels + tyre 12.5 kg
The wheel was 7.5 kg. You would need something 5 kg or less. and a tyre is about 9.5 kg

205/50 would go better on a 15 x 7. Mine were just a little too rolly on the 6.5.
