Are rear upright bearings replaceable?

Folks,

I gather the bearings in rear uprights are peened over, and considered non-servicable by Mazda (NA, NB at least).
All the same, has anyone ever replaced the bearing(s) in there?

Thanks - Gavin.

I have done one rear wheel bearing - as indicated a bitch of a job.

You might get the old one out if you know what you are doing, but MUST use a press to get the new one in. I stuffed around with it for an hour before giving in and taking it to my local machinist. He did it in 2 minutes with a hydraulic press.

You will also need a really big breaker bar and torque wrench. That nut is tight!

cracks me up how the mx5s wheel nuts are tight as when most other cars are rather low a setting it appears.. or have i been talking to too many old car fans
