KYB-AGX or konis with standard springs.

Just wondering if its okay to use the kyb or koni shocks with the stock springs. I dont want a stiff/hard ride, after better ride quality mainly. I haven't priced replacement oem shocks yet, are they pricey? (assumes yes). Cheers.
P.S. Any other good value alternatives to oem (Bilstein etc).

I recently purchased KYB AGX shocks from the US, and use them with standard springs. Set on 2 at the front and 1 on the rear, the ride is great, not hard at all. Much better on a trip. With the exchange rate at present, you should be able to get them for about $450 delivered to your door. Mine were about $470.

I did it a few weeks back and they cost me just over $500 landed.

I have used std springs and the old boots. Set them at \"1\" as I found \"2\" too harsh for me, then again i'm probably older than Grumpy!

If you are unlikely to do any track work, maybe you won't need the adjustable shocks. In hindsight, I could have gone with those non adjustables.

Dont get the non-adjustable KYB's. They are shite. The KYB AGX's are much better. I had the AGX's on my NA and I thought they were better than my mates Koni equiped NA. I have Koni's on my NB and they work well but I haven't had much experience with an AGX equiped NB, although I installed a set on Agro's car and she seems to like them. For the money and the ease of adjustment the AGX's are hard to go past.

Im really contemplating of getting KYB AGX atm...The review here seems to be quite good but in US, a lot of ppl saying that its doesn't last and within a year or so it will start losing its adjustiblity.

Anyone has any problem with AGX here?

Franjae,
Not sure who is older but SWMBO loves the ride with shocks set at 2 and 1.
I run 4 and 3 on the track and it suits me fine. I have also heard that the shocks loose adjustability over time, but will have to wait and see. For now, I am enjoying the ride.

Sorry to go off on a tangent here but Grumpy, who did you buy them off? Ebay? Do you have a link to the seller?

Purchased them from JDMWERKS. and yes, they advertise on ebay. Communication is non existent, but the goods arrive fine.

I bought some off this guy last week. Cost me $465 delivered when the dollar was about 90c US. Cant wait to get them :)

Im thinking of installing them myself- is this a good idea (considering im a mechanical novice!?)

If i run stock springs, will it sit any lower (is there a different perch height?)

had the AGX's with king springs for about 25k km now and still riding beautiful. even after a couple 'encounters' with a kerb. very durable IMO.
cant go wrong.

good question... any answers out there?

also, are the kyb agx matched to stock springs at all?

how long will stock springs last before whatever aging happens?

and what aging does happen to springs?

As far as height goes, there seems to be no change. There is only one perch height. I think my springs are stock. When I got the car it had Pedders shocks so I don't know if the springs have been changed. If anyone wants some pics, send me a pm and I can email some. They would look better original size rather than being hosted.

Update.
Just checked out the sticky regarding suspension facts and figures. It would seem my car has been lowered by about 20mm, either that or the springs have sagged.
Front s/be 350mm wheel centre to wheel arch, mine is 330
Rear s/be 370, mine is 350.
