1. They are the lightest wheel ever sold on an MX-5! Are they 14's or 15's?

2. Most R-Spec tyres are legal, look for the DOT approval on the side of the tyre but Mania can say for sure.

They are 14s. They are a bitch to clean. They do look good, but not the look I wanted. 8)

Yes, they are VERY light.

Schultzy,

The BBS rims fitted to your car were fitted to a small number of MX5s in 1993. http://www.miata.net/faq/wheel_weights.html

The BBS brand is very highly regarded and those rims are top quality. They are a German brand. If you decide to sell them you should get a very good price. They are a 14x6 size, not the 15s (look at the lip around the outer edge). As pointed out, they are very light, the MX5 suspension gives it's best with light rims.

The fitment of a 15x6 rim to your car will not break the ADRs (nor would a 15x7), but you should check with QLD motor registry to find out their interpretation of the ADRs. From memory, 15x6 will be both legal and insurable, but you should satisfy yourself about that.

As for fixing the centres, you can try shimming the caps a bit (thin foam to start with) but BBS rims in that style were notorious for the centre caps. They were also offered on BMWs a lot and it was a major gripe. Too much shim and the centre will fall off, and replacement is very $XXXy.

BBS is in financial trouble right now, pity cos they make some pretty cool retro looking rims.

Yep these came on the 100 '93 Limited Editions released in AU. From memory weighing in at around 3.5 kgs or about half the weight of the standard 14\" rim.

When a good set comes on the market, pricing is around $400 each rim. Price obviously drops when the have suffered damage / gutter rash.

Schulzy, this begs the question - do you have an original limited edition NA? BBS 14x6 wheels, red paint, tan leather, tan soft top, special numbered gear knob, in-seat speakers, etc. If so, and even if you don't want to use it all now, it's worth keeping all that stuff as a set so you can sell the car at a premium later.

Lol well thats great to hear! No i dont have a limited edition  i have an import Roadster with just the usual stuff on it. Thanks for ur advice guys, i will most likely be selling these sometime in the near future not because i dont like them but i'm after a more JDM look.

Do you think if i got them painted black they would do the look justice?

Cheers guys

The wheels would be worth more in original condition. So either sell them to finance new wheels, or buy new wheels and store the BBS wheels.

Just my 2c worth

From memory I sold my rims for $565 on ebay with some rashing and reasonable tread on tyres.

Ok thanks guys!

One more question though, are there a wide selection of top quality tyres around for this size rim. Because if i dont go down the new wheel road then i would like to put a very nice set on.

Thanks again
