It has been done.
Would I do it? No way. I don't think it's legal to put on different sized rear wheels.
I've gone from 17's back to the stock 15s.

Its illegal to go bigger then 17inch on an MX5 anyway regardless and anything bigger then 18s will look ridiculous. Just look at lowering your rear springs a bit more since the back sits a tad higher.

dude i did it and it scraepd like a bitch.
you have to seriously pump your guards i pumped them a little and 19x8 were just too much. plus ride was terrible.
i just lowered my back another inch so the tyre sits nice in the guard.
18x7.5 all around looks sweet.
plus you loose too much power as it is with 18s
i know i am the apitamy of bling but sometimes i wish i could JDM the car, black paint/rims and punish it. then other times i love the look of sex spec.
in short 19s are pushing it and will ruin the ride.... thats my 2 cents anyways

just the info i was after!! so 18 x 7.5 fits on mx5's easy without mods / adjustments??

Where is that little emoticon of the hammer bashing someone on the head when you need it.
Do you guys realise how much better your car will drive with a set of 15\" wheels on it... You will be amazed...
My car came standard with 17\" wheels and I think they are a tad too big.

If you read his post you will see he \"pumped the guards a little\".
Can anyone say overkill?

Here you go.
BCHELR wrote:i pumped them a little and 19x8 were just too much. plus ride was terrible.
I got from this that he pumped it FOR the 19s, but they were too much, ride was crap, so he changed them.
BCHELR wrote:i just lowered my back another inch so the tyre sits nice in the guard.

I assume he didn't put the guards back to stock, so now he is running 18x7.5 with the guards still "pumped a little".
Please correct me if that's not the case BCHELR. There's your answer mlv11n, they'll go!
DINO also had 18s on his.

i previously had 18x7.5 on stock guards no worries before i painted the car.
they when i went to paint i wanted more bling so punped them a bit and tried the 19x8 no go!
went back tto the 18x7.5 and could slamm it a bit more due to the fact the guards were widder and fit around the wheels more.
ATM guard sits half way between the tyre and the lip of the rim.
nice and squated stance..... looks sweet but terrible ride
it si for this reason that i am being more sensible with my lexus... optional sports suspension keep the 17 for the time being. can attack any speed hump/driveway without hessitation and the ride is immaculate. smoth as!!
Bi rims and dumping the car = bad ride , but i knew that was the price to pay for having the car the way i wanted it to look. i live with it.
