Koni adjustable Vs monroe or similar on na6

Just wanted some opinions on what shocks to go for. I have a leaking shock so the rears I need to be replace so I thought it a good time to consider an upgrade also.

Can anyone tell me(in thier opinion) if there is much advantage in going to adjustable shocks? there is certainly a big diff in price so is it worthwhile for the gain?

I am already planning on going heavier swaybars so is the addition of adjustability going to be very usefull? ie will the adjustment help me to tune the handling for the swaybars etc? Do you need to go any stiffer than std shocks?

if you are prepared to put sways in, dont muck around with cheap shocks..

I replaced my NA Mazda shocks with brand new non-adjustable KYB's. They were shite. The car had worse damping than the worn Mazda shocks. I switched to KYB AGX's (adjustables) which were considerably more expensive but worth every extra cent compared to the non-adjustable KYB's.

You can get KYB AGX from the US for under $500 AU. I know from experience. You do have to buy new bumpstops on top of this if needed.

And then fitting. Beats the $1300 Fulcrum quoted me.

Good shocks are absolutely fundamental to handling and comfort. You can't get either without them.

Adjustability gives you the ability to tweak handling for different conditions: soft for daily driving, firm for twisties and hard for track. So if you do have different uses then you shouldn't get trapped owning shocks you find you can't live with for a significant part of your use.

As Boags said you can get AGXs for under $500, then maybe add $40 per corner for fitting. Original bump stocks on an NA6 are getting on a bit, so maybe add $35 per corner for new ones. You could be up for a fair few dollars no matter how cheap the shocks are.

I've got AGXs on an NA and I'm happy with them. Lots of people love them. Lots of people say they're shite. Nobody says good adjustable Konis are shite. Then there are Teins, but I don't know anything about them ...

IMHO you've gotta start with good shocks and you should do some serious all-up price hunting for Konis as well as AGXs. Total price might not be that much different.

I was going to get koni's if anything mostly for the reputation, as you say I have never heard anything other than good things about them, and there is little difference in price between them and agx. Thankyou for your opinions and for not \"sitting on the fence\" before I decided to buy some I really wanted to hear from other people in no uncertain terms that there is a justified benifit from going adjustable.

As for fitting, I have already fitted the springs myself so I should manage.

Koni it is then, now to work on the parents and see if they will subsidise(for christmas ofcourse

beats a new pair of jocks)

I've tried Konis and KYB AGX's on an NA and I prefer the AGX's even though I have Koni's on my NB (which I love). I dont think you'll go wrong with either.

Not sure which has the ultimate firmest damping really. The Konis are infinitely adjustable whereas the AGX's only have 8 preset steps. The AGX's adjustment wheel is easier to get to in that you dont need to pull the boot to pieces to get to the adjuster like in the Koni's. The AGX's adjust rebound and compression damping at the same time whereas the Koni's only adjust rebound. The AGX's tend to make a squishing noise as they work but the Koni's are quiet.

I have put Koni/Kings on my NA about 3 months ago and love them.. I run them on full soft for normal driving and when I go for a blast only have to turn them up about 1/2 to 3/4 turn which is plenty.. Have not had them on a track yet.
It makes a huge difference from the old leaking shocks I had, you won't regret it.
Mania have a good package price ($1395, I think from memory) but you should shop around. Just be sure you get the right set, there is a difference between the earlier model NA's & the later ones..

Do you mean the difference is between an NA6 & NA8 or between NA6's ?

It's just that I'm reading this with interest as I need new shocks on my 93 NA6.

He means NA6 and NA8. All NA6s are the same. In fact, you can use NA8/NB shocks in an NA6, just needs a bit of love to go in.

If there is anyway at all of getting the money - go Teins, they are that much better.
