NEW SHOCKS

Postby jp928 » Mon Jun 26, 2006 3:11 pm

Just did the set of 4 - one rear was obviously soft, and at 163k, they needed doing. Got some std KYB Gas units through a mate in the trade. One rear had very little gas in it as expected, other soft. Front was the surprise - one was in very good nick, but other didnt want to release its top mount ! The nut turned the shaft, and we had to use vise grips on the shaft through the coils to get it off, with some lubrication. At least 10mm of the thread was damaged from working in the top mount, and the flat in the top mount was pretty much gone. On trying to check compression I found out why - it would only go in about 1/3 rd of normal stroke before jamming solid. Dont recall any specific symptom, suffice to say that it is now MUCH nicer to drive , taughter, but still compliant....
