Help with front suspension

Postby Swizzel » Sun Apr 02, 2006 7:22 pm

Hi guys,

I'm looking for some advice/tips on removing the front coil over from an na6 mx5. I need to take the whole unit out. I understand there are a couple of different methods: 1- removing the ball joint from the upper wishbone, then the bolt on the lower wishbone.
2- removing the lower wishbone bolts (including wishbone tongue bolt)
and then pressing the wishbone down to create some space and removing the shock through the upper wishbone.

Any advice or tips would be very useful. Cheers

Swizzel - you dont need to remove the ball joint - after removing the swaybar (anti roll bar) upper connection, loosen the top / bottom shock mounts, then remove the upper wishbone retaining bolt (a long 24mm nut / bolt combo if I remember correctly) this way you dont need to have your wheel alignment re-done. The description to remove all this is in the Big Forum - takes about 1.5 hours per side to swap out for a first timer.
