The usual method to lower a MX-5 is to replace all of the springs with a lower/stiffer set from a manufacturer such as King Springs. However it is recommended that you change all of the shock absorbers as well as lower (and stiffer) springs will not match too well with the Mazda Shocks. A combination of four Koni Shocks and King springs is very popular and will set you back around $1,100.00 plus fitting. There are many other combinations of Shock/spring out there and as with many things in life it all depends on how much you want to spend.

I have been told from within the industry that the quality of spring steel used in the Pedders product was inferior to the Australian made material.
Might be bulls**t but it’s worth keeping in mind when you consider top of the range springs are not that much more.

I have the Koni's in my car and swear by them, admittedly, you could buy better, but cost vs benefit they do an excellent job for me.

If you just stiffen up the rear it will cost you heaps because you will probably spin out and hit something...like everyone has said you should do the whole packsge...MX5s don't like to be too stiff in the rear.
