Woo! Free dish!
Looks like I'll be buying these tyres when my Kuhmo's die. Maybe with some of the recent track days coming up I can scrub them out a bit quicker :P

Type - Toyo T1R
Size - 205/45R16
Price - $160
Dry grip - 4.0 Predictable breakaways.
Wet grip - 4.5
Tyre ife - Harder compound. Expecting up to 40,000km due to plenty of highway cruising.
Road noise - Very quiet but you can hear the tyres scrubbing on turns.

Ride is nice and soft even on King spring. Still feels \"soft\" at 38psi but never sloppy. Slower turn-in than the Turanza ER30 is disappointing. Feels like an NC - plush with slower turn-in. It's a compromise tyre but suits my requirements and at a nice price. Was after RE001 but not @ $220.

Type - GT Radial HPZ
Size - 195/50/15
Price - /tyre - around $125
Dry grip - average
Wet grip - who knows, I drive like a wuss in the wet
Tyre life - 20 k and well worn out, but plenty of hard cornering and one track day has killed them
Road noise - can't hear any over the exhaust

can't say really how they handle, i need new bushes all round and a decent alignment. I suppose they have done ok for a set of cheap tyres, looking at something a bit stickier next time, budget permitting.

Not really a full test. This was a set of very well worn Dunlop street tyres that I just threw on for a track day at Sandown last week.

Type - Dunlop Direzza DZ101
Size - 195/50/15
Price - /tyre - free
Dry grip - really good
Wet grip - nfi
Tyre life - nfi
Road noise - average

Warm, not hot, sunny day. These worked pretty well from cold and got nicely sticky after a lap or two and stayed that way. This was virtually a Porsche club day, mine was the only MX5 there and they were all running R-spec tyres. Able to run down most of the 911s through the twisties without much drama. They grip very hard and then let go suddenly but you can work them out OK after a few laps. I'd think seriously about these if the price was good.

Type - Yokohama AD07
Size - 205/45/16
Price - $220/tyre
Dry grip - Excellent!
Wet grip - Installed for one week only (no rain yet! but they said should be very good)
Tyre life - They said 20,000km - but the compound on the tyre quite soft... I have doubts on this one..
Road noise - Low

Finally discovered the real funz of a MX5... I had really really bad unknown tyres on my 5 before... but seeing it with some life on it, I kept it for 3 months.. Until last week, heard that AD07 can be bought somewhere in Sydney.... got it changed straight away!!! So far, only done 150+km on the new tyres... dun think tyres opened up completely... but already I can feel the big difference.... Soft compound, excellent corner grip, low noise, car less bumpy.... I found the perfect match for my 5!!!!

Type :Bridgestone RE001
Size : 195/50/15
Price :$115
Dry grip : Bloody Good
Wet grip :(misty fog) very good
Tyre life : who cares!!
Road noise : none

Took off wheels and tyres to fit 15 x 7 Lightweights.
The Falken Zein 326 aren't a great tyre and very noisy. Tyres were on car when we bought it.
Did 250k yesterday to try out and am very impressed.
Always run Yoko's, but figured the Bridgestone were worth a go.

Khumo Ecsta KU31 $110
205/45/16 from Tempe Tyres

Had them for about 2500Kms
Dry grip - good
Wet grip - good NA, skitiish Turboed.

Handling - great for general to medium driving.

I'm pushing the envelope with spirited drives as through the twisties they will start to howl like a banshee when pushed hard.

Fairly quiet otherwise and have cushioned the jarring that 16 inch wheels give on an NA6
Huh?

^^^
I've found the same with my 195/50/15 of those tyres. They're starting to show their limits in the wet a bit more when I give them a little extra push.

Whats the deal with tyre prices? About a year and a half ago I got some Bridgestone Potenxa GIII's in 185/60R14 for $121 per tyre. Then I got semi's but now one of them is about to explode, so I need new tyres. I call the same place up and they quote me $150/tyre for the same GIII's, Bridgestone Castle hill quoted the same price. My friend got the new Adrenalines in 15\" for $120/tyre.

Why has the price gone up by ALOT, is it oil prices or something? And how annoying is it when the only non semi slick performance tyre you can get in 14\" is a GIII.

The GIII's are on their way out now aren't they?

I remembered a thread on here a few months ago where the Bridgestone guys were planning on releasing the adrenalins for the 14" but that isn't happening until August :?

Thanks ramo, yeah they are, except they are the only sporty 14" tyre other that semis, even toyo don't have 60 profile in their T1R anymore, I swear I saw it not long ago.

August! But i need them now! :P
Useless.

I know sasso

I'm in the same position... My tyres won't be able to handle waiting another couple of months so I might have to get the Yoko C-Drives as they do cater for the 14\"

Interesting, how do the C-drives rate and how much?

i have c drives on both my rims, 14 and 15. they are great street tyres but i don't rate them very highly on the track. they don't like the heat at all. once they get hot they are very slippery, don;t have much grip.
