Tein SS (6/5kg F/R) with 24mm whiteline adjustable front sways and standard 12mm rear sways. What do you guys think? FRC is pretty good at 58% or so, but I'm worried that the front might be too stiff and lose a bit of suspension independence.

Anyone see any flaws with the proposed setup?

Depends more on what the damping is like. The front will be tolerable. It might lose independence as you say, it will be excellent on smooth stuff, perhaps a bit skatey/jittery on big bumps.

I'd be more worried about the stiffness (natural frequency) in the rear.

I'm surprised about the scuttle shake. Normally a stiffer suspension setup give sthe opposite effect.

If I were you I'd stick to a 14mm rear bar. Might be worth checking out how much they are from Mazda (that was the size used on the SE and AFAIK is interchangeable).


I wasn't expecting any other improvements from the front bar, but it was definitely less scuttle shake...though the reason being may be that a lot of the vibration from the front has been transferred to the back (go figure). This is tangible as I have a set of wheel-nuts sitting in the spare wheel which never rattled before, when going over rough surface.

Point well taken re 14mm rear bar. I will definitely not go bigger than that as I know it will induce oversteer, and I prefer a neutral set-up.
I'm actually in correspondence with a guy from Flyin' Miata in the US. They currently have a special on their front&rear sets @ $159.20 USD.
Geez things are cheap over there! Not even mentioning the price or cars! :(
