Viewing my prior credit card statement the bill came to $1200. (including alignment & tyre disposal fee :roll: what a joke) Therefore - $300 a corner.

Remember - these are Adelaide prices - Sydney & Melbourne prices are far cheaper.

I'm actually quite happy to pay the tyre disposal fee, assuming they don't just dump them somewhere. If they get properly recycled for use as something else, I'm all for it.

In any case, they aren't overly cheap tyres, but they seem like they fit the bill.

They work on an mx5, but after I posted my review on these some time ago, another forum member mentioned rjastra2 thought they behaved like absolute crap on VW - they were an OEM tyre for his VW.

It's impossible to find European GSD3's in this point in time. Most of them are either made in Thailand or even here.

As for lack of grip, well I have the Thailand made ones in 205/45R16 and I think they are ok. I think you're exaggerating a bit about them being no grip and worse than Chinese tyres. For the record I got them for $180 each, so I don't think there's a lot around that can top that for performance.

I've got Thai GS-D3s as well. Just did a tuning day at Barbagallo on them, including one 50 lap spell with no rests, no backing off. I like to move the car around a fair bit. They actually got pretty sticky after 10 laps and stayed that way up to the end. They didn't go off at all. They kept me pretty close to cars on slicks and R-specs on the twisty bits. Good control. 100 laps only took about 25% off the tread.

Not really a bad result for cheapies - I've seen them for $130. All the scuffing has made them much better in the wet since.

I got the Bridgestone Adrenalins on my car now..
195/50/15 for $125.

best tyre ive dríven on.

RE001? hvnt been looking at the RE001, not sure about the price... but $125 for such performance tyre is really cheap...

Even better than the Kumho SPT's you had? What about in terms of grip?

how many k's can these kumho last?

I think the R001 wont last long... say 10k km to 15k km?

So far my Kumho's have had about 10k km's put on the rears and I think more on the fronts and there's plenty of tread left, although I don't know what the % is.

I paid (from memory) somewhere round 220 a corner. When I crashed my car (lack of grip when emergency braking) and the car was in the workshop for a few months I took my wheels off and gave them to my brother who has a Gold NB8A and he thanked me for giving him such crappy tyres because he could step the tail out and oversteer any time he wanted.

No offence to the guys who have GSD3's, I guess I had a really bad batch. I got bitten once and they failed me when I needed them and after I got my car back from the crash repairer and got my wheels back (half worn) from my brother, they chirped and didn't inspire much confidence. I tried EVERYTHING from wheel alignment settings to tyre pressures to get them to behave right. For the GSD3 to be Goodyear's flagship performance tyre, it just isn't in the same category as Pirelli P Zero's, Michelin Pilots or even the OEM Turanza ER30

When I get a wife and kid and stop spending ridiculous amounts of money on my car, for $180 a corner I'd go to Yokohama or Toyo

I'd better make myself a bit clearer about the Thai GS-D3s. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone for day-to-day use. The grip is terribly unreliable when cold. The surprise to me was that they gripped consistently and didn't go off when they heated up on the track.
