threaten to or make a complaint to the ACCC, A Current Affair or Today Tonight as a last resort.

either way sounds like you have been wronged and can seek a remedy IF you want to pursue it.

I haven't heard about any fake Kumho's, but have been told Tempe Tyres are so cheap because they sell grey imported tyres and the actual tyres can be quite old.

Don't recall where I heard this, but there are tyre codes that tell you when they were manufactured.
Googling tells me you shouldn't fit tyres that are more than 6 years old, and well rubber does deteriorate.

I'm not trying to bash TT as I haven't bought from them, i'm just checking if the above is correct.
And would be happy to be wrong as they do have good prices, if you aren't "misled", whether intentional/unintentional.
Maybe someone who has bought from Tempe within the last 12 months could check and let the rest of us know.

Oh and BTW, the manufacture date of the tyres was 2111 = 21st week (mid May) of 2011...made in Korea.

I'll second that also what JBT said. I brought 22 week old Korean made Kumhos from them also last year. Only $170 cheaper than what anyone would seller them to me of in my local area. ($320 vs $150). I would not hesitate to purchase tyres from Tempe again.

Tempe are great for tyres. Just call prior to check stock as they get them in via container load.

Not fake, just companies parallel importing tyres that would normally be bound for a different market.

Internet rumour says these tyres are lower quality or different compounds to tyres bound for Australia. I call BS on it, people just assume that because something is made in Asia it must be shat.

I agree, the rumours are feed by tyre shops loosing business to other shops willing to directly import from the manufaturer. So when you start loosing business, you scare tactic potential buyers into buying their product.

They are however not supported by the offical Australian suppliers warrenty, so you do have to go back to the retailer (in this case Tempe Tyres) for a warrenty claim. Which brings me to a few points:-

1. I got the tyres at better than half price, so I'd probably just by another cheap if I had an issue.
2. I know no one that has ever returned a tyre for warrenty purposes whether it be a official or parralel imported tyre.

So point 2 is not really something I'd even put into the equation when buying tyres. Can anyone say for the last tyres they brought, that the asked about their warrenty or warrenty T+Cs when purchasing? It is never on a buyers mind, cos they don't bust like electrical items etc.

p.s. And I'm not talking about the retailers Road Protection Warrenty or similar either. That is a seller warrenty, not a manufacturers warrenty.

I think it there's an issue with a tyre, you'd be hard pressed to make a warranty claim on it anyway...unless it burst shortly after you leave the shop. Your best case would be claim on the manufacturer.

That said, I bought 4 KU31s from K-Mart Tyre and Service - one was made in Korea, the other three were made in Vietnam.

Work claimed tires on the land cruiser, tread was separating from the carcass. Had them replaced at half price ( they had done 45 odd k km for memory) due to thread wear being about half down.

Seems it was a common problem. Was told to run higher tire pressures.
